“It’s a long story. Anyway, the only people who knew me in the past and know I’m with Demons United now are members of my family. Close family. Demon contacted my cousin Tavish, the president, when I started prospecting so there would be no bad blood between our clubs once I patched in.”
My eyes widen. “That means...”
“That means I need Agent Revels to give me a name. This is my family, Rebel. And I’m not accusing anyone of shit until I know the truth.”
“So, what’s the next steps?”
“Church. And even though you may be involved in club business because I came to see you and asked for your help, that involvement ends now.”
“What do you mean? I want to help.”
“I’m not pulling you in any deeper, Rebel. I care for you and I’m going to do for you what, I didn’t do for Dani and Luca. I’m going to protect you. This is where your involvement with all this ends.”
“I’m not walking away from you, J.D.”
His smile sent an electric jolt through me, igniting a desire that made my spine tingle. “I’m glad to hear that because Rebel Pierce whether you know it, you’re stuck with me.”
I laughed, kissed his lips, then pulled away. “I think I like that. You’ll be careful, right?”
I wondered what he was planning. Even though I had a feeling shit was about to get crazy, I wanted to make sure he came back to me. We had a future together. But only if he stayed safe.
The loud knock on the door stopped our conversation.
“Everybody’s here!” Caesar shouted through the door. “We’re ready whenever you are!”
J.D. tapped my thigh, and I rose from his lap. An ominous feeling hung heavy in my gut. As he stood up, he gently wrapped his arm around my waist, drawing me to him. I hadn’t missedhim not answering my question which could only mean one thing. Whatever he was planning he might not survive it.
CHURCH
J.D. Stevens
“How in the hell do you plan to pull this off?” Caesar asked.
I wasn’t sure. But there was no other choice. It was the only way to find out exactly what happened. After discussing with the brothers some of what Dani wrote in her journal, it was time for some of them to decide whether they were going to be involved. I only needed a few, but they had a choice in the matter.
I was taking a different approach to this situation with Agent Revels. Normally we put shit up to a vote when members of the club were going to be involved, but this was happening whether or not they approved of it. They could help me, or they could not. There wouldn’t be any hard feelings if they decided not to get involved. It was going to be tricky and if they didn’t want to get caught up in the shit, I couldn’t blame them. Agent Revels would have no other choice but to come clean. And the only way for that to happen was to take him and make him talk.
“I don’t know, Caesar.” I sighed, running my hand through my hair. “But there’s no other way around it. I know this is personal and not club business so I’m not forcing anyone to get involved if they don’t want to.”
“We have to make a rational plan if we’re going to do this,” Caesar said.
“Agreed,” I said. “But I need you to stay here.”
Caesar’s intense gaze met mine as he leaned forward in his chair. He was my VP. No one was better suited for the Office of the President if shit went sideways.
“You must’ve lost your damned mind if you think, I’m going to let you do this shit without me.”
“Let me?” I glared at him. “You’re my brother, my best friend, and I love you like you’re my blood but I’m still your president. You’re better served here if something happens to me.”
He huffed, leaned back in the chair but said nothing else. I turned my attention to my brothers, effectively putting an end to Caesar’s argument. We’d been through some shit throughout the years, but this was not the time to argue about shit that wouldn’t change. He was staying here, and that was final.
My club. My rules.
“I only need a few of you with me. Schizo, Hannibal, Zigzag, Kilo, and Tank if you’re in?” I asked.
The sounds of “we’re in” and “hell yeahs” echoed throughout the room, and I responded with a nod.
“The rest of you, I want you here on lockdown with your families just in case shit goes bad. Since this is a Fed, I want everyone, and their families accounted for, so they don’t pen shit on anyone. You’ll be covered if you’re here. Caesar will be in charge and if I don’t make it back, he gets the president’s patch. Understand?”
