He stared at me for a moment then passed me another picture. Again, I didn’t look down at it.

“Do you know who this man is?” he asked, pointing at the picture.

I rolled my eyes again, then looked down at the photograph of Detective Abrams, entering my building. I looked back at Agent Revels.

“No, I do not. Who is he?” I asked, hoping I was a good fucking actress because if they pieced together what happened in my apartment, we were all up shit creek without a paddle.

“Ms. Pierce, we have photographs of J.D. Stevens and some of the members of Demons United entering your building not too long after this man entered.”

I wanted to ask why he believed the man entered my apartment, but I chose not to because I was always taught if you didn’t want to hear the answer never ask the question.

“Okay. I’m not following you, Agent.”

“This man didn’t leave the building, and neither did the members of Demons United. At least not through the front.”

“That may be the case, but I’m still not following you Agent Revels. What does this have to do with me?”

The force of his palm hitting the table reverberated in the room, causing me to squint at him.

“Let’s cut the bullshit, Ms. Pierce! We know there was a disturbance at your residence. Tell me what happened.”

“If you know that much, Agent Revels, I’m sure you received the police report saying the police contacted me. Is that right?”

“I’m asking the questions, Ms. Pierce,” he said, ignoring my question. “Now answer me! What happened at your apartmentbetween this man,” he pointed at the picture, “and J.D. Stevens?”

“You’ve read the report. You know what happened at my apartment, Agent. And once again, I don’t know who that man is.”

“And I’m telling you, that’s absolute bullshit!”

“What do you have against Demons United, Agent?” I asked as calmly as I could. He wanted information from me maybe I should get some from him. “Better yet, what do you have against J.D.?”

Something flickered in his eyes, and I knew immediately I had hit a nerve. I needed to dig deeper. Agent Revels was hiding something, and it had to do with J.D. and Demons United. However, before he could respond to my question, the door opened and in walked my godfather.

“Oh fuck.”

He was the last person I wanted to see and by the look on his face he was fucking pissed I was in this room.

“Can you give us a minute, Agent Revels?” he asked.

“But Sir...”

“It wasn’t a request, Agent.” He glared at Agent Revels. “Give me the room.”

My godfather had a commanding presence. His six-foot five frame towered over many men. He also had that look that said don’t fuck with me and we won’t have any problems. He’d been in law enforcement for as long as I could remember. And while he was my godfather, I considered him my uncle.

As Agent Revels left the room, I could feel the weight of his glare lingering in the air.

“Why did you let them bring me in, Uncle Donald?” I asked when he took the seat across from me. “I haven’t done anything wrong.”

He sighed. “What did I tell you Rebel when you called me?”

“I know, Uncle! But I’m not involved in anything!”

Not the complete truth but he didn’t need to know to what extent I was involved with J.D. and the death of his wife.

“Then tell me why you’re all over my surveillance records, Rebel?”

“I’m working, just like I told you. It has nothing to do with the FBI unless you have crooked agents?”
