A smile crossed his face, and lust danced in his eyes like he understood where my mind had drifted to. I couldn’t help but mirror his emotions. When I reached him, he pulled me between his legs, my back resting against his chest. I squirmed, trying to get comfortable against his massive dick.
“How do you feel?” he asked, his fingers lazily moving up and down my arm and distracting me from his hard-on.
It had been years since I’d been in his arms, and it was like coming home.
“Physically?” I asked, laying my head against his chest.
“Yes, physically and mentally.”
“Physically, I feel amazing.”
He kissed the top of my head.
“I haven’t felt this much exhilaration and peace since the last time we were together.”
It was pathetic to tell him how much I had missed being with him, but I couldn’t lie to him. This had been such a freeing experience for me. It was also hard to explain how much my body needed him to be complete.
“And mentally?”
“Not so simple to explain.” I sighed. “You know, don’t you?”
There was no point in hiding the truth anymore. It was time to rip off the Band-aid and get it over with. Even if he didn’t know, he deserved to know about his daughter.
He stopped rubbing my arm and sighed before continuing with the soothing action. “Yes. I do.
“How did you find out?”
“It wasn’t Brian, if that’s what you’re worried about. A reporter from some tabloid calledExposé.”
I rolled my eyes. “Of course.”
“Did you try to get in touch with me?”
I shook my head. “No.”
“Why the hell not, Tara?”
“In the beginning, after I’d tried so long to at least hear your voice other than on the damn voicemail, I got the message loud and clear. You didn’t want to see me or talk to me anymore.”
“It wasn’t like that, Tara.” He blew out a breath. “I was trying to protect you.”
“Did I ask you to protect me, Valentino?”
“You don’t have to. It goes without saying.”
“But when it affects me and my life, I should have a say.”
I looked up at him. He looked down at me like he wanted to disagree, but he couldn’t. Even though it was in his nature to make sure I was safe, he also knew that I was right. When his decisions affected my life to the extent that one had, I should have been told so we could make a decision together.
“Did you really believe I wouldn’t want my child?”
I could hear the anger in his voice, but what did he expect me to do? He cut me completely out of his life. Wouldn’t answer a single damn call. If it weren’t for Brian letting me know he was alive once in a while, I would have believed he was dead.
“You can’t do that to me, Valentino. You can’t make me feel guilty for the decision I made after you left me. What the hell did you expect me to do? You cut off all contact with me.”
“You know me,Stellina. I would have never left if I thought I could have made it work between us. You would have ended up dead. Nia too.”
I nodded, even though, at the time, I didn’t know why he’d done what he did. I understood now. It was the same reason I hid his identity from everyone for all these years, even from my sister and closest friends. But even though we both held fault for the way things had turned out, how did we fix it? That was the real question.
