As we walk into his living room, sitting on the couch is no other than Agent Contee. Confusion sets on her face.

"Agent," is all I say as I place my hand on the small of Kira’s back.

"Agent?" Kira gives me a confused expression, and Agent Contee ignores her question.

She stands and stares at Kira then turns her attention back to me. "I assume you didn't speak to Douglas and Harris? Never mind, don't answer that."

Roger walks her to the door, and she gives Roger a smile. "Agent Contee, I’ll be in touch. Don't let on that he’s here."

She agrees and leaves. Roger returns to the living room.

"I thought you said she wasn't going to be a problem."

"D, when did you start doubting me?" Roger gives a quiet chuckle as he escorts us to the couch. "And you must be Kira."

"Yes, you can call me Kira or Akira. And please excuse his rudeness. He's extra grouchy today." Kira laughs, and I shake my head.

I lean back on the couch and get comfortable, grimacing a little from the pain radiating from my arm and chest. "I have a damn good reason to be grouchy. Roger, what the hell was she doing here?"

"She's been giving me information on your case. She doesn't trust the other agents."

"What kind of information?"

"That they are gathering as much intel on you as possible, and they are looking to question your girl here to see if they can trip you up on the details of Spike’s disappearance."

"Can you trust what she says?" Kira asks.

Roger nods and leans back in his couch, taking a sip of water. "A lot of the information they’ve gathered has been manufactured. Michelle believes Agents Douglas and Harris are dirty and are personally out to get you. As of right now, she doesn’t know their motive, but they are personally invested in seeing you behind bars. So, she is sort of running a counter investigation against them, without the Bureau’s knowledge."

"Roger, I don't give a fuck what kind of investigation she's got going on, I don't want Kira involved in any of this shit. She’s got nothing to do with any of it." I'm upset at the possibility of my pregnant girlfriend being caught in the middle of all this.

"It's too late for that my friend. As soon as they saw her at your bedside, they zeroed in on her," he calmly says and smiles. As if it is the most normal thing in the world for the woman he loves to be trapped in the middle of a turf war and a federal investigation.

"What are you smiling for, Roger? I don't want her involved in any of this shit."

Kira squeezes my hand trying to calm my anger. "Austin, he's right. I'm already involved. I told them when they asked about this Spike dude that I didn’t know him."

"And we’re going to keep it that way. The less you know about any of this shit, the better."

"Well, the question will come up about how and why Kira came to Georgia in the first place. They may be able to put together what happened in North Carolina, but they haven't gotten to that point. If you answer the questions that I allow, you will be fine."

"So, what’s the next step?" I move my hand down my face in frustration.I really need some pain medication.

He smiles, crosses his legs at the knees, places his hands in his lap and gives a goofy smile. "My advice as your attorney is for the two of you to get married and do it as quick as possible."

"Are you serious, Roger?" I ask.

"There is a term called Spousal Privilege that protects married couples and their communications with one another. I won’t go into detail about it right now, but like I said, marriage can protect both of you. Look, they are already filing for an arrest warrant. And before you get upset, the charges won't stick. But nonetheless, they will arrest you."

"How do you know the charges won't stick?"

"For one, they are banking on you, Kira. And two, I'm the best lawyer in Georgia. So when I say the charges won't stick, they won't stick. You being his wife is just a bonus."

Kira turns to me, gives me a huge smile and grabs my hands. "Austin, let's do it."

"No, Kira, your wedding day should be a special day for you. It should be special for both of us."

"As long as you’re there it will be special. So, let's get this done as soon as possible."
