"What the fuck, Dani? You’re supposed to be at school doing school work, not raising hell. You saidwe. I'm assuming you and your friend here?" He turns his attention to me, pointing between us as he leans back in his chair.

"Yeah, Austin. This is Kira. You remember me telling you about her?"

"Yeah, I remember."

"Well, we need a place to hang out for a few weeks until the cops do their damn jobs."

He takes in a deep breath, and he agrees...even though I can see the questions flicker across his face as to what the hell we have going on. "You can stay, little sis, but I want the full story. I don't want anything left out, and then we can go from there. Kira, I assume this trouble involves you as well?"

With his intense stare and the discomfort I have from the encounter with the man downstairs, I'm unable to maintain eye contact. I drop my head. "Yes."

It is all I can muster as I try to keep the tears from falling.

"Go straight home. No detours or stops. I fucking mean it." His voice booms with authority. "If you’re in deep shit, follow my directions. I’ll be there in a couple of hours. Use your key."

We stand up, and Danielle embraces her brother one last time as he once again glances back at me. "Thanks, bro. I knew we could come to you."

He positions his hand lightly on the small of my back, and I jump slightly, surprised at the gentle touch.

With his help, we descend the stairs slowly, me gripping the railing with one hand and him bracing me by my other arm. Although he’s scary as hell, with him, I feel safe. Something I haven't had in years.

We reach the bottom of the stairs once again, all eyes on us. Many of the men stare lustfully, raking their eyes up and down our bodies, while the women stare at us in disgust and jealousy. When we make it outside, Demon opens the door for me, and I carefully slide in the front seat, trying to avoid injuring myself further.

He leans over me, buckling my seat belt. "Go straight home."

He closes the door, maintaining eye contact with me. When he steps back from the car, Dani waves and we drive away.

Shifting around in the seat and trying to be as comfortable as possible, my mind is on Demon. "Hey, why didn't you tell me about your brother?"

Without removing her eyes off the road, she takes in a breath and sighs. "My brother doesn't like people knowing we’re related due to his business. It could put me in danger. But Kira, this is some bad shit, and he may be the one and only person who can help us. So trust me when I tell you we need to let him in on everything. And I meaneverything."

Because I’m not quite sure exactly what her brother does, I'm not convinced he can help. Avery’s father has unlimited resources. What can we do against that?

“And what does your brother do that is going to help us?”

“His business is the most powerful motorcycle club on the East Coast, Kira. They are involved in a lot of things from gun running to drugs, but Demons Unitedisour only option. They can protect us.”

"You think he will help if I tell him everything?"

"I brought the pictures of the incident. We’re going to need evidence for my brother to be a part of this. He can help."

I hate the thought of someone else seeing what happened to me, especially this man I don't know. I'm unsure if this is the route I want to take. My mind is saying do anything and everything possible to keep Avery from getting to me. The shooting pains moving throughout my body are a constant reminder of my circumstances and how far Avery went this time.

"Do we need to show the pictures to him? I'm so embarrassed it went this far."

"Yeah sis, so he can see how you almost died from this attack. Austin is not going to judge you, Kira. He has his own demons. He knows how close we are, and Avery threatened me too. He's going to need proof so he can bring it to his associates."

"I don’t know him, but I trust you. If you think he can help, I'm all in."

Demon

Back inside,I am seething because of Mike's actions. If I hadn't been here, there is no telling what would've happened to Dani and Kira.

"Mike! Upstairs now!" I take the stairs to the upper level two at a time and enter my office. "Sit the fuck down!" I point at the couch as he enters the office behind me. "What the fuck was that downstairs?"

"I was treating them bitches like any other ones that come in here,” he says. “If I knew you wanted the first crack at them, I would've kept my hands to myself, although the black one looked fucking hot."
