Akira
I jumpoff the back of Austin’s bike, and I’m surrounded by men carrying weapons. A lot of weapons.
“Austin do you really think this is all necessary?
“Kira, this ain’t no normal business meeting.” He motions around to the heavily armed bikers and grabs me by the hand. “We’re meeting Abasi Sefu. So yes, all this is needed to keep everyone safe, especially you.”
I understand where he is coming from, but this is still my uncle. My blood. He wouldn’t hurt me.
“Austin, he’s my uncle. He wouldn’t do anything to put me in any danger. He has a bad reputation, yes, one that he has earned, but he’s still family.”
“I understand he’s your family, Kira, but I have to take precautions simply because who the man is. But if it makes you more comfortable, only you, me and Razor are going inside. The rest of the guys will remain outside.” He squeezes my hand to reassure me that he knows what he’s doing even though I think it’s a little overboard. “Let’s head in. We don’t want to be late.”
Walking into the warehouse, to say the least, was nerve-racking. Although my father and mother went through great pains to keep me away from him, they did not keep my uncle’s activities away from me. I know all about my uncle’s dealings and how dangerous he really is, but no matter what, he is my blood and the only family I have left on my father's side. All the others died during the Civil War. I know he can help me. Well, at least I hope he will help me.
I was more worried about seeing him because we have no relationship, rather than what kind of man he is. The last time I saw my uncle was at my parents’ funeral, and he said to call if I ever needed him. But I did not contact him about Avery because my uncle is beyond dangerous; he is evil, and I was hoping I could deal with the situation on my own.
My uncle enters the warehouse with two men flanked on his sides and walks over to us, giving me a hug. "Mpwa."Niece.
"Mjomba. How are you?" I return his embrace.
My uncle observes the three of us with a blank expression, no doubt assessing the situation and sizing up the guys. "I am fine, my beautiful Mpwa, but you have gotten into some trouble, yeah?"
"Yes, Mjomba. A horrible situation."
"Well, let's talk in private before I meet with these two gentlemen to handle business." My uncle motions between Austin and Razor.
"Demon, could you please give us a few minutes?"
"Sure, take your time." He places a kiss on my forehead, giving me that panty-dropping smile of his.
We walk away from Demon and Razor and my Mjomba gives me a small smile before speaking. "He's in love with you."
"I don't think so, Mjomba. He may have feelings for me, but not love."
"If you say so, Mpwa, but I beg to differ. It is in his eyes."
I shake my head as he places his arm around my shoulder, pulling me close.
"So, what kind of trouble is this that your friends need weapons?"
I lower my eyes to the floor, embarrassed to tell my uncle what's going on. "My ex-boyfriend was abusive, and he almost killed me a few weeks ago. My best friend is Demon's sister, and she brought me to him for protection. My ex has a lot of money, and his family is powerful, so the police aren't doing anything, and he's looking for me."
With anger in his voice, he stops walking and looks at me. "Why didn't you call me?"
"I…I thought I could handle it on my own. But now, because of his family's money, I need help. My friends are into some things that are illegal, and I would like for you to help them from now on if possible."
"You have feelings for the boy you call Demon?"
"I do, but I want everyone to be protected from my mess. I trust you more than the people he usually deals with."
Nodding his head, he ushers me back to Austin and Razor without any more questions.
"Mjomba, I would like for you to meet my friends Demon and Razor. These two gentlemen are taking care of that problem I have. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help them with anything they need."
"If they are friends of yours and they are helping you, then they are friends of mine." My uncle extends his hand to Demon then Razor, and they both return the gesture.
"My name is Abasi Sefu. Now gentlemen, since you’re helping mpwa wangu,my niece, I assume that one of you is very important to her, yeah?"
