"Maybe." Razor shrugs his shoulders, stands up and walks over to the door. "I'm going downstairs to wait on Uncle. I’ll let you know when he gets here."

"Okay." When he leaves, my attention goes back to Austin, and I continue to run my hands through his hair. But this time, no response from the heart monitor causes me to lose a little hope. "Baby, you have to get better."

This should be an exciting time for both of us, and you’re lying in that bed clinging to life.

The sound of the door opening again brings me out of my thoughts. Larry enters the room with a small smile across his face. He walks over and gives me a hug, and I break down in his arms. No words are spoken as the older man, who I’ve come to know is more like a father to Austin, holds onto me as if my life depends on it. He doesn’t let go until I finally calm down.

What if he doesn't make it? What if he never sees his child?

"I'm so sorry, Larry.” I pull back from him.

“It’s no trouble, darling. I know this must be rough on you because this is rough on everybody."

"I just need him to wake up." I return to Austin’s bedside.

"And he will as long as you’re by his side. I've known that boy all his life, and I have never seen him as happy as he is when you’re around. And he has never been as sad as he was when you left. You hang in there because that boy loves you more than you can imagine."

"I love him too, Larry."

He takes a seat beside Austin’s bed. “Never doubted it, darling. Razor needs you downstairs. I’m going to stay until you, Dani, or one of the guys comes up here."

"I won't be gone too long," I whisper in Austin's ear and place another kiss on his forehead before walking out the door.

Downstairs, I see Razor and my uncle sitting in the waiting room. My uncle stands when I walk over to him and Razor and kisses both cheeks then embracing me. . I return his embrace and lay my head on his chest for a few minutes before stepping back.

"Mjombo, thank you for coming." I give him a small smile.

"Anything for my only mpwa. Let us take a walk outside and discuss things."

I walk outside with my uncle on my right and Razor on my left. We discuss the events of the past weeks, some of it being club business. Razor assures me that Austin would want my uncle to know everything, especially since he was targeted, and that I might be in danger as well.

"Well, my involvement stays the same. I’ll kill the Koshenko girl, and if this Adrian is involved in my nephew being in the state that he is, then he will die by my hands as well. Now, I would like to see my nephew."

A week has passed, and Natalia is nowhere to be found. Austin still hasn't woken up, but his breathing tube has been removed and that I can say is a blessing. I've been sitting here day and night waiting for any sign that he will wake up, but nothing has happened.

Theresa, the nice nurse I met earlier in the week suggested that I read to Austin one of his favorite books or poems to keep his mind stimulated while he is still in a coma. So, I've been reading him Edgar Allen Poe poems for the past week. I was amazed when during one of our many conversations Austin recitedThe Ravenby heart to me. It was one of the most beautiful poetry readings I had ever heard even though poetry really isn't my thing, and the poem sounds so grim. So, I'm sitting here readingThe Ravenhoping and praying he can hear me.

The sound of the heart monitor increasing captures my attention. I look over to Austin, but his facial expression hasn’t changed.

“Austin, why in the hell do you like this poem so much?” Chuckling, I shut the book as his heart monitors beeping picks up. I place the book on the bedside table and run my hand through his hair as his heart monitor beeps a little faster.

"I guess you like me reading the poem? Please, sweetie, wake up. You need to come back to me...to us."

But nothing changes except for the increase in the heart monitors.

I sit back down beside his bed as I have every day since I got back from Toronto, hoping and praying for something to change. Once again, I'm brought out of my thoughts by someone entering the room as I lay my head down on his bed.

"We need to ask you some questions." A voice I don't recognize causes me to groan. I just want to have a day where I can sit with him in peace, not worrying about anything.

"And you are?" I ask, without lifting my head. I'm hoping they will hurry up and leave.

"Agents Harris and Douglas, FBI."

"Are you investigating who shot Austin?"
