"That bitch is dead." I gaze at Austin and continue to pray that he will pull through.
I need you baby...we need you.

Startledout of my sleep by the sound of the door opening, I jump up and survey my surroundings. I'm immediately brought back to my reality by the sounds of the constant beeping and the clicking of the machines keeping Austin alive. I wipe the sleep from my eyes when an older lady, maybe in her mid-fifties with shoulder-length, wavy black hair, and olive skin greets me. She walks over towards Austin holding a clipboard.
"Hello, darling. Your friend requested a cot for you to sleep on before he left last night. I hope you were able to sleep more comfortably."
I sit up and throw the cover off me. "Yes, ma'am. I slept as well as to be expected. Has there been any change?”
Sighing, she shakes her head. I lower mine.
"Sweetheart, that man lying in this bed is strong." She talks as she records readings off the machines hooked up to him. "I've been a nurse for well over twenty-five years, and I have never seen a young man fight so hard to live."
I take the seat beside him again and grasp his hand. "It seems everyone believes he's fighting to come back to me."
"He's a fighter, but what he needs is for you to fight for him. Let that man know you’re here. I am a firm believer that people in his condition can hear what we say to them. Keep talking and let him know that he has something to come back to."
When she leaves the room, I turn my attention back to Austin as I intertwine his hand in mine once again. I think back to my time in a coma. Did I hear when Dani spoke to me? I really can’t say that I did, but I’ll try anything to help him come back to me.
"I really hope you can hear me, baby. I love you with all my heart, and you have so much to live for."
Overcome with emotion I begin to sob, and my head begins to throb.Calm down,Kira...you have to remain strong. Remain strong for him and your baby.
I take a deep breath to calm my nerves, lean over to Austin and place a kiss on his forehead.
"I'm never leaving you again," I whisper in his ear as the sound of the clicking of the door opening captures my attention.
"I brought you some food,” Razor announces. “You need to go home and rest or at least take a shower."
"Thank you, Razor, for the food, and I think I’ll just clean up here. I want to be here just in case something changes."
"Has anything changed?" he asks with hope in his eyes.
I shake my head and take my seat once again beside his bed. "The nurse was in here when I woke up and said nothing has changed. She did encourage me to keep talking to him."
Razor hands me a bag of breakfast. "You need to eat something to keep your strength up. When does Uncle arrive?"
I take a bite of the breakfast sandwich. God, I didn’t realize how hungry I am. "Not quite sure. Should be this morning though. I always want someone with him, Razor. So, when my uncle gets here, can you have one of the guys come to sit if Dani isn't here yet?"
Razor takes a seat beside me at Austin's bedside. "I can sit with him."
"No, I want you with me when I talk to my uncle. I haven't been around, and he’s kept me in the dark. You know what's been going on with him, so I need you to talk to my uncle about everything."
"He didn't realize he was pushing you away.”
I look back at Austin then turn my attention to Razor with a sigh. "How could he not?"
"D is a different type of guy, Kira." He shakes his head. "He holds everything in and takes it out on those around him. You happened to be one of the things he was stressing about because of things with the club."
"Why didn't he just talk to me instead of being such an ass?" I place my sandwich back in the bag, losing my appetite. "We’re supposed to be there for one another."
"You have to ask him that when his stubborn ass wakes up." Razor laughs and causes a small smile to etch across my face.
"Very stubborn." I run my hand through his hair as the beeping of his heart monitor increases. Looking over at Razor, I smile. "He knows we’re here."
