“Is Bianchi here?” I asked.
The man’s eyes opened so wide, I thought they might jump out of his head. “I don’t know who that is.”
“That’s lie number one,” I said, cocking my head. Joker cocking his pistol caused the man to flinch. “You get two more chances to tell me the truth and live. Where’s Bianchi?”
The man swallowed as he looked from me to Viper and then to Joker. “He’s not here today,” he said, his voice shaking.
So, the Agent hadn’t lied after all. Hopefully, Bianchi hadn’t moved them yet. Even if David wasn’t behind this door, somebody’s kid, mother, or family was.
“So, this is his place?” I asked.
He nodded.
I walked to the steel door and looked up at the camera positioned high above the frame. The red light blinked constantly. “Is it streaming or recording?” I asked, pointing toward the camera.
“Streaming,” the man replied.
“So, he knows we’re here?”
“Yes.”
“Who’s behind the door?”
“I don’t know,” the man replied, his voice trembling.
“Lie number two,” I said, holding up two fingers.
Joker raised his gun, and the man threw his hands up in surrender.
“Look, man, I just run the front. Whatever goes on down there, they do when the store closes. I’m paid to make sure no one like yourselves makes it through that door.”
“And how are you supposed to stop someone like us?” I asked, curious to hear what he would say. Because, as of right now, he was outgunned.
“I was paid to press this button under the counter, which I did as soon as you came into the store.”
“Hmm.,” I replied. “Open the goddamn door.”
“I d-don’t know how,” he said, stumbling over his words.
Joker racked his gun, putting a round into the chamber.
“Lie number three,” I said.
“Okay. Okay. It’s 7-3-4-5.”
Joker pulled the trigger, shooting the man in the head. His large body fell behind the counter.
I punched in the code as Joker and Viper walked up behind me.
“You ready?”
They both nodded, and I slowly pushed the door open, diving out of the way just as the bullets whizzed by. Screams, yells, and curses echoed from downstairs behind the steel door.
“Everyone good?” I asked as we returned fire. I hoped no one got hit who wasn’t supposed to.
“Yeah, we’re good,” Viper replied.
“Let’s go!” I yelled.
