Colin’s gaze darted between me and his brother, his lips thinning like a lightbulb flashed in his head, and he discovered some secret. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, bro.” Tavish frowned, and Colin shook his head. “Don’t tell me you’re screwing this broad?”
Tavish didn’t answer.
Why the hell isn’t he answering?
“Come on, Tavish.” Colin wiped his hand down his face, smearing the blood even more. “Don’t tell me you would do something that fucking stupid! She’s a damn pig!”
I wasn’t a cop, but I wasn’t too far from it. And although we weren’t sleeping together,at least not yet, Tavish refused to answer. I wasn’t sure why, especially since the situation called for all the facts to be on the table.
“Jesus Christ, you are.”
Colin struggled to get to his feet. Tavish crossed his arms over his massive chest, saying nothing.
“What the hell do you think Angus is gonna say when he finds out you’re screwing the bitch who put him in prison?”
“Viper, take Gina to my house and wait for me there,” Tavish ordered without taking his eyes off his brother.
It was a good question, even though we weren’t sleeping together. Neither his father nor anyone else wouldn’t be happy about Tavish and me working together.
“Tavish,” I cautiously took a few steps toward him, “I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”
I didn’t want to leave him here as angry as he was, unsure I could stop him from killing his brother, but I’d try. I didn’t need Colin MacDaniel’s death on my conscience, too. I had enough guilt weighing me down.
Tavish’s head slowly turned toward me, and I stopped in my tracks. The anger on his face said I should shut the hell up and do what he said.
“Damn it, Gina. Go!”
His bluntness lashed at me, and I jumped at the sound of his voice. He raked his hand across his goatee, blood covering his knuckles, walked toward me, and grasped me by my arms. I winced, and his eyes narrowed, anger flickering in them.
“Go with Viper, please. My house is right behind the garage. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
“Look at this shit,” Colin sneered from behind us. “She must have some good snatch for you to turn your back on your own goddamn family. After you’re done with her, send her to me. You know how much I like to share.”
Eww.
Hell, no.
A glowering mask of rage covered Tavish’s face. This stupid little shit kept digging a deeper hole for himself. I needed to do something before Tavish crossed a line with his brother he would never come back from.
I did what came naturally and cupped his face. He stiffened under my touch for a split second but then relaxed. “Tavish, please don’t hurt him,” I stupidly pleaded for a man who clearly hated me. But I understood his anger. It wasn’t a good reason to attack me, but I understood his rage. In his mind, I took his father away, the man who raised him. If the shoe were on the other foot, I couldn’t say I would react differently.
The line of Tavish’s mouth tightened a fraction more. “Promise me you won’t hurt him, Tavish,” I repeated.
After a moment, he reluctantly nodded, quickly walked away from me, grabbed his brother by the shirt, and then pushed him inside the building into a room. The door slammed shut, rattling the frosted glass pane inlaid in the wood.
“Miss, come with me.”
The man named Viper gently grabbed my elbow. I stared at the closed door to the room where Tavish had pushed his brother for a few moments, listening to the raised voices and furniture crashing, grunts, and curses.
“Miss,” Viper politely called again, getting my attention. “I promise you, there’s nothing you can do. They need to sort it out themselves.”
“He’s going to kill him.”
He chuckled. “No, but he’s going to fuck him up, for sure. Come on. There’s nothing you can do.”
I sighed and followed him, knowing he was right. There wasn’t anything I could do to stop Tavish. Why would he listen to me, anyway?
Colin’s reaction was unexpected, although I knew if I ran into any of the MacDaniels, they’d be angry. Even Tavish had been when I showed up at the clubhouse, but I never expected to be physically harmed, especially after Tavish agreed to help me.
