She scowled at my nonchalant response, furiously wiping tears from her face and smearing black mascara across her olive skin. What Daniella would never understand was that my skin was tough as an old piece of Italian leather. I didn’t care what motherfuckers thought or said about me. Call me a bastard, call me the damn Devil if that made you feel better, but she could never get me to care for her if I didn’t want to. No one would push me into something that wouldn’t benefit me. Being with someone like Daniella wouldn’t benefit me in the least.

“When you find the woman you love, Vincenzo De Maio, I hope you experience pain like I feel right now. Don’t ever call me again.” She snatched her purse from the couch and rushed out of my office, bumping into an amused Angelo.

“Trouble in paradise,” he said, laughing as he watched her race down the hall.

“Did you find him?” I asked, ignoring his jokes.

Seeing Daniella destroyed because of my rejection wasn’t something I delighted in, unlike Angelo, but what I’d done was necessary. She wasn’t getting it. Hopefully, now that she saw I was making moves to marry someone that wasn’t her, where we stood with one another would be much clearer.

Angelo continued to stare down the hall until Daniella was out of sight, then turned his attention to me, laughing. “Yes, he’s atGianni’swith his family. They’re having dinner in the private dining room. He’s been there for about an hour.”

Despite the sexual release that usually tamed my anger, it had gotten worse. I was infuriated. Cyrus’s casual demeanor towards my request was irritating and having to go to him, rather than him come to me as he should, made my fury soar even higher. I absolutely detested when I had to approach others to get what was rightfully mine. It was disrespectful, and most of the time, it never turned out well for the other party. But it looked like Cyrus wasn’t giving me any other choice.

“Well, let’s get this over with.”

I wanted Isabella Lombardo as my wife, as the mother of my children, so I’d make it happen on my own if Cyrus continued to stand in the way. He wouldn’t like the outcome, and it was best he got on board with my plan. It could save his life, as well as the lives of his sons.
