“You have my word, Donna.”
“We aren’t married yet, Lo. So, I’m not Donna. We may never get that chance.”
“You will, and I’m under strict orders that if anything happens to Vin, you take the reins and I advise you like I would him. So, Isabella Lombardo, you are Donna of the De Maio clan and your orders are to be carried out as such.”
It took a minute for his words to sink in. I was Donna of the De Maio clan. Vincenzo had told Angelo I was to lead his family—ourfamily—and do what was best forourmen. This was an attack against us that couldn’t go unpunished. Everyone was watching, waiting to see what I would do, if anything.
It’s time to step up.
My father’s words swirled in my head. I understood Angelo’s warning. These were not his orders, not Zo’s, but mine.
I lifted my chin and turned my attention back to my fiancé. He would make it through this and the person who orchestrated this would pay.
“Find them, Angelo.”
“It’s done.”
