“I don’t like surprises, Vincenzo. I guess it’s one of the things you should know about me.”

“But you will love my surprises, Bella.” I scowled, and his deep laugher boomed through the plane. “Trust me.”

“Whatever you say.”

I rolled my eyes, and his laughter continued.

“So, is this your plane? I’ve never been on a private plane before.”

“Really?” His brows rose in surprise.

Despite my upbringing and my extremely comfortable life now, I’d never indulged in the luxurious things other than the occasional trip or an exclusive purse. Expensive things never made me happy; it was something my father had used to replace his absence. Now, I kept my lifestyle simple. It was more comfortable for me.

“Well, you’re in for a real treat,” he said. “I’ve had it for about three years now, and it was one of the best investments I could have made. I do a lot of traveling for business, as you know, so I wanted to do it in comfort.”

The plane’s cabin had all the comforts of home.

Plush, cream-colored leather reclining seats lined the front and the section behind it, on either side, with dining tables large enough to comfortably sit four.

He pushed open the small door at the rear of the luxury plane, which opened into a small bedroom that held a queen-sized bed, a wall-mounted television, and a small bathroom.

“This is amazing,” I said. “I love the colors.”

“As my wife, you will have access anytime you need it, and you can change anything you like. I know you don’t travel much because of work, but just in case, it will be available. Unless I’m traveling for business, of course. You can also hire a personal chef if you’d like, and I have my own pilot and flight crew who are available anytime you need them.”

“Oh, all that won’t be necessary. But thank you, anyway. The only other trip I’ll be taking for a while will be our honeymoon. As you know, work keeps me so busy I rarely have time to relax.”

“That’s something that needs to change, Bella. While I’m learning you enjoy your work, you also need to take time for yourself.”

I’d heard it all before, but I never indulged because I never had anyone to indulge with. Maybe now things would be different.

He placed his palm against my lower back as we made our way back to the front of the plane. When we took our seats, the way he watched me caused everything around me to fade.

I knew I could fall head over heels in love with him, and although the prospect was scary, the thought brought a smile to my face. While my mother and father’s relationship had been unconventional, they’d loved each other with unbridled passion. I wanted that kind of love. I wanted someone to believe that without me, there was no them. And, unbelievably, I wanted to return that same kind of unwavering love.

Vincenzo cleared his throat and tilted his head, an inquisitive look flittering across his face. “Did you hear what I said?”

“No.” I shook my head. “I’m sorry. What did you say?”

“We have a few hours before dinner is served. If you want, you’re more than welcome to take the bedroom or recline here. I have some work that needs to be done before we land.”

“Iamtired. I think I’ll just recline here if that’s fine.”

He nodded, leaned over, and kissed me.

My body instantly melted.

I would never get enough of this Vincenzo—the attentive, caring one he tried to hide. This Vincenzo was addicting.

When he pulled back, he brushed a kiss against my forehead. “Sleep well. I’ll wake you when it’s time.”

“Thank you, Zo.”

“It’s my pleasure, Bella.”

He walked off, and I was astonished at the sense of fulfillment I felt despite my circumstances.

After watching his impressive body walk towards the back of the plane, imagining all the things I couldn’t wait to do with and to him, I closed my eyes, excited for what the coming days would bring.
