Giana shook her head vigorously and then chuckled as she realized that had become a joke with the others. Her daddy was amazing and didn’t have any trouble making fun of himself or admitting he’d screwed up.

When he disconnected from the call, Koa asked, “What kind of dessert should we pick up?”

“Cookies and ice cream. We had a big debate over what flavor of each treat combines to make the best cookiewiches.”

“Sounds like the three of you enjoy each other’s company.”

“We do. We have a lot in common and enough differences that we don’t bore each other. Both Pippa and Aspen think you’re great. Not as handsome as their daddies, but what do they know?”

“Yeah, what do they know?” Koa repeated, grinning at her.

He had no idea how hot he was when he smiled like that. It did all sorts of things to her tummy inside each time. Squeezing her thighs together, she felt the simmering arousal that had lingered from simply being close to him flare higher. She whirled her fingertip in the silky strands on his chest.

“Maybe we should take a nap if we’re going to a party tonight?” she suggested.

“That’s a good idea,” he agreed immediately and scooped her onto his lap. Standing, he carried her back to his room and pulled her T-shirt over her head. Koa cupped her bare breasts, running his rough thumbs over her nipples.

Instantly, that growing heat combusted to need. She swayed closer, pressing her breasts fully into his hands. Koa’s fingers trailed down to her waistband and unfastened her shorts.

“I have to be naked to nap?” Giana asked, playfully batting her eyes at him.

“It’s the nap law. You can ask your friends tonight if you need to check.”

“I can’t ask them that!”

“Of course you can. You could ask their daddies if you prefer…” Koa’s voice faded away as he drew her shorts and panties to her ankles.

“I’ll ask Pippa and Aspen,” she rushed to assure him.

“Good idea.” He tapped her foot, signaling for her to lift it.

“Has everyone had a little girl before?” Giana asked, stepping out of her clothing.

“Yes. In various degrees of seriousness. Somehow everyone on the team is a committed daddy. I don’t know if our similar preferences make us work better together automatically, or if our daddy sides bond us closer so we synchronize on a higher level. Either way, I’ve never seen a group operate as well as we do.”

“I’m glad, Daddy. I want you to come home safely.” Giana’s eyes filled with tears. She’d avoided thinking of the possibility of Koa not returning from a mission. As a person with a high-risk job herself, Giana thought she was immune from worrying about what could happen tomorrow. That invulnerability flew out the window when she thought about Koa.

“Hey, Flame. It’s okay, baby.” He stood and scooped her up in his arms. He sat on the side of the bed to cradle her, rocking her slowly. “Shh!”

“I-I’m sorry,” Giana choked out.

“Thank you for caring about me, Flame. I worry about you too. I’d wish we both had boring desk jobs, but I don’t think we’d be happy there.”

“No. That would be torture,” she admitted, wiping the tears from her cheeks.

“No one knows when it’s their time to go. We need to treasure every day we have together, little girl.”

He kissed her softly as he stroked her hair. “You are so precious to me. Is it too quick for me to tell you I love you, Giana?”

The breath caught in her chest as she studied his face. She couldn’t detect any sign of fakery or deceit. His expression was caring and open. “You love me?” she asked.

“With all my heart, Giana.”

She struggled with what to say. Huge feelings toward him filled her, but she wasn’t ready to tell him yet. “I…”

He kissed her, stopping her from talking. His lips moved softly on hers. Wooing and tempting her to focus only on the kiss. His hands moved on her skin, stroking and caressing her as if he had a million minutes and wanted to spend all of them with her.

Giana wrapped her arms around his neck and abandoned herself to the sensations he created. Pushing away herawkwardness and previous sadness, Koa forced her to focus on the now—to enjoy the sweet heat that he built inside her.
