The admiration in her voice was so pure, I was almost jealous of Rune, even though I knew he was very happily bonded in a pack with my cousin.

Did this mean I needed to build an herb garden so she would be that proud of me? I would make a hundred gardens if I needed to.

“He’s a good man. How he puts up with my cousin, I have no clue…”

“Patience of a saint!” She chuckled before we slipped into easy silence again for a moment.

Melody turned to Samson with a sweet smile. “Personally, I don't know how you put up with this one,” she said teasingly, jerking her head toward me.

Samson sighed dramatically. “I know, he’s a terror. The first time we met was when he almost drowned me.”

I snorted. The story of how we'd met had been exaggerated many times by this point, but I was still going to let him tell her.

“You tried to drown him?” Melody asked me, shocked.

“I didn't intend to!” I defended myself. “We were at the academy. I was put on hoses for the first time, and I didn't understand just how strong the hoses were. So instead ofshooting the jet of water at the building, I accidentally shot it straight at him…”

“It wasn't a little jet of water, either. I was knocked clean off my feet, and I was pretty sure my sinuses got a very good wash.”

“See, I was helping you! Who knows when you’d last had a sinus rinse?”

“You launched me across the parking lot!”

“I mean, you’ve always said you wanted to fly…”

Samson shook his head as Melody shook with laughter.

“Thankfully he’s better with a hose now,” Samson assured our little omega.

“I'll have you know, my hose handling skills are superb!”

Melody bit her lip. “He's not talking about fire hoses anymore, is he?”

Samson nodded in agreement. “Unfortunately.”

We all giggled, snuggling together. It was perfect. I adored my pack, but there had been something missing, and now I knew that had been Melody. She was the perfect balance for us.

I was going to spoil her rotten, and she had no say in the matter.

“How about we order some takeout and spend the evening snuggling?” Samson asked softly, breaking the quiet.

Melody chewed her lip thoughtfully for a second before beaming widely.

“I’m in.”

Chapter 22

Melody

After a glorious night of snuggles and takeout, I'd finally crawled back into my bed. The thing about being knotted was that it was absolutely exhausting. One of the last things I remembered before passing out was Samson ensuring me that he would take care of the fluffball.

When I cracked my eyes open, finally emerging from my deep sleep, thanks to Samson feeding Dotty, the first thing that hit me was the smell.

The room I was in smelledwonderful.

Dark, rich, and masculine. It was hard to put my finger on exactly what it was, but I was enamored.

Was this what alphas smelled like?
