Holding up my hands as if he’s going to attack me, I say, “Alright, let’s relax the beast for a moment. What the fuck is happening right now?”
“I received a text earlier. A fucking joyous text. One that has me jumping up and down in excitement.”
“Damn, okay—fuck—sarcasm much? Just tell me what the issue is. I’m sure we can figure it out.”
“Oh, I already figured that part out, but before we get to that, why don’t you read this message I got,” he says, handing me his phone.
Looking down, I see it’s from an unknown number, but it doesn’t take me long to recognize the area code.Miami.
Unknown: If you don’t give us port access, your wife and sister are as good as dead.
“Fuck,” I mutter, afraid to ask whose number this is.
“I’m sure you can guess who sent this.”
“Carlos Montoya or Manuel Velasco?” I ask, in a tone of voice that’s definitely a little higher than normal.
Teo furrows his brows and looks at me like I’m a damn idiot. “No. Amalia fucking Velasco. And now, she’s as good as dead.”
I keep my expression blank, but inside, those words don’t settle well with me.At the fuck all.
Nothing about this makes sense. I haven’t had a chance to go back and look at the footage to confirm what Amalia told me last night, but I saw the look in her eyes when she told me she wasn’t the one who suggested kidnapping Izzy and Lux… and I believe her. So why would she all of a sudden threaten my family’s lives again? Unless this was all part of their plan. Get me out of the picture so they can make their move.
My face begins to heat with rage, but I try to stifle it as much as possible because I don’t know the truth at this point. I do know Teo and I need to go into this with a clear mind, and I can tell by his darkened gaze that he’s far past that.
“Alright, before we get crazy and start killing people, let’s take a fucking second and think about this.”
“There is nothing about this that needs to be thought about,” Teo growls out. “She threatened our family. You know what happens to people who make that mistake.”
His tone is sharp, piercing through me with the gravity of the situation.
“Just hold on a second, Teo. Are we sure this is from her?”
“Cassius traced it.”
Fuck.
“Okay, so it’s Amalia Velasco’s number, but I’m saying are wesureshe’s the one who sent it?”
“What fucking riddle are you saying to me right now?” he snaps.
“All I’m saying is yes, it’s her phone number, but maybe she didn’t send this message.”
Teo’s silent for a moment, staring at me like I’ve lost my damn mind… which, maybe I have. But Ireallydon’t want this shit to be true because if it is, Amaliaisas good as dead, and I’ll be the one to do it. This is all fucking with my head, and it’s beginning to be too much.
“You’re awfully defensive of her.” The accusation makes me feel like fucking shit. Like I’ve chosen a side and the side wasn’t my family’s.
“I’m just trying to think clearly. We need to make sure it came from her before we make a move. You know that. We need confirmation first. Anyone could have sent that text.”
“Fine,”Teo bellows out. “Find out if it was herimmediately. And when you find out it was, I want her fucking head chopped off and sent back to that uncle of hers.”
“How colorful,” I mumble.
“What?” Teo snaps.
“I said, right on it.” I walk over and grab my phone out of my jacket pocket so I can copy down Amalia’s number. “I’ll give you an update as soon as I have one.”
“It better be the update I want, Enzo.”
