So much for that.

She gives me a sad smile that I sneer at, and she snorts. “You won’t be able to use that excuse here. He’s the furthest thing from my type and after what he did, I’d like to give him a swift kick to his balls.”

I laugh hysterically at the slip of the spitfire peeking out from deep within her.

“Anywhos, enough about me. Back to something you said a minute ago. You said originally regarding the Attendant role. How all the Attendants are treated now wasn’t always the case?”

“No, at least not according to the history they like to bury. The Designations all stem from a Beginning God. Aside from the one who disappeared.”

“Really? That never once registered in my mind. Who did the Attendant Designation come from?”

“Derivius, the Beginning God of Chaos. Chaos is something that if it reigned alone, it would be, well…chaotic. But pair him with any of the other Beginning Gods and there becomes purpose to it. Hence the domains, abilities, and personalities are supposed to assist, compliment, and enhance others.”

My entire body flushes and I try to keep anything I feel from showing on my face. He sure left that little tidbit out.

Was him being disowned what caused the shift in the way Attendants are treated?

I clear my throat and keep my voice as steady as possible. “If it isn’t too personal to ask, is that who you have a domain under?”

“Gods no, thankfully. That would be even worse than the hand I was dealt. I can’t talk about it, though.”

I hide my crumbling face behind my glass as I tilt it back and finish off my water.

A couple things assault my mind. One, I can’t help but wonder how shitty everyone would’ve reacted if my domain in my Deliverance said Chaos rather than Untold. Two, thatgodtold me my Attendant would be unbound.

So he lied, and she hasn’t been. Maybe she has and doesn’t know it. Or she’s not ready to talk about it. I won’t push, though. I don’t want to talk about him or what he did to my poor sweet soul.

I brush it all to the side. I maybe have woken up feeling a bit different, but there’re still no godly abilities in sight. So I may be jumping to the conclusion that I have a domain under him simply because he was the one who visited me.

I sigh deeply as I walk to her sink and wash my cup out, then place it on her rack. My head hangs as I shake it back and forth, then turn back to her. “Can I just hide here all day?”

“If they weren’t expecting you for lunch, I’d say yes. I think if you don’t show up, they’ll come knocking.”

“I don’t thinktheywould. I think just Kyzen.”

“That’s too many gods coming to knock at my door. You and Havar are my limit.”

“Well, one, you’re a god as well. Two, I think Lambrit will make the cut once you’re around him.”

“Barely a god, but yes. And I guess I’ll make an exception for him if he’s going to be hanging around both you and Rose.”

“He will be. I plan on going and finding him after this little lunch if you’d like to join me.”

“Yeah, I’d like to check on Rose. It’s not that I don’t take your word for it, but I want to see she’s okay with my own eyes.”

I smirk at her protectiveness over her sweet friend. I can promise her, mine’s sweeter, and I need to make sure he’s okay.

“That’s the plan then. Wish me luck. I’m going to go hide in my room for a few hours, then face my Valtrue.”

She laughs as she walks me to the door. “You don’t have to go yet. You can hide here until it’s time.”

“Thanks, but I need a minute alone to get my wits about me. It’s been an amazing, relaxing morning, but I got to mentally prepare myself for this. If not, they’ll walk all over my ass. I know it.”

She grimaces, solidifying my assessment. “There’s not much they don’t get away with here.”

Great.

“I’ll see you later. Thank you for everything this morning.”
