It’s fucking Romeo. With a gun pointed at me.

“No more games, Luca,” he growls. I jump behind the bed as he starts firing. My gun is a few feet away, but I’ll have to move and risk getting shot again. “This is the end.”

“How did you find me?”

“It wasn’t hard to track you when word got out that you took some doctor hostage. I followed the breadcrumbs from there.”

“How smart. Good for you, Romeo. Didn’t know you had it in you.”

He starts walking into the room. “I’m going to fucking kill you, Luca.”

Just then, Nat’s voice rings out. “Luca? Are you ok? I hear gun shots.”

Shit. Why couldn’t Nat just listen to me and stay in the car like I told her?

Romeo is backing out of the room. I know he’s going after her.

“Get back to the car, Nat!” I shout as I dive for my gun.

I head Nat gasp and then the sound of frantic footsteps. Romeo is just leaving the room when I fire my gun …

… and fucking miss.

He’s running down the hall, going after Nat.

I chase after him, but he makes it to Nat before I can stop him. She’s running out the door when he fires and makes a strangled sound before dropping to the ground.

“Nat!” In all my rage, I barrel into Romeo, knocking us both to the ground. In the scuffle, our guns skid away from us. I punch Romeo, again and again and again. He laughs as I hit him harder. “What’s so fucking funny” I shout at him.

“You might want to check on your wife rather than waste time with me.”

Fuck. Nat. Glancing over, I see her lying on the ground. I stand up, but Romeo trips me, and I land on my stomach with a huff.

I grab my gun as he grabs his, and we point our weapons at each other. We’re in a standoff, neither of us moving. We know that if we both shoot, we’re both going to die.

“You have a choice, Luca. Either die with me right here, right now. Or save your wife and risk not killing me.”

Fuck this motherfucker. He knows I’m going to choose my wife, which means he’ll get away again.

“Just fucking go,” I snap at him. “You get to live.”

“I’ll be seeing you again,” he growls before running out the house. I run to Nat’s side and gently turn her over.

“Nat? Baby?”

Her eyes flutter open. “It hurts, Luca.”

“I know, baby.” Blood is pooling on her right side. “I’ll get you help.” I scoop her into my arms and place her in the car. Romeo isn’t anywhere to be seen.

I drive to the nearest urgent care to find a doctor who can help. Just like with me, we can’t risk any hospitals.

I’ll need to kidnap a doctor myself this time.

I walk calmly up to the receptionist, a heavyset, blonde woman, before pointing my gun at her. “Get me a doctor.”

She squeaks before running down the hallway. I can hear her talking to someone before she returns with a doctor.

I almost laugh.
