He smiles as he walks to us, turning towards Patty to kiss her too.

"You made cinnamon rolls again," he murmurs against her lips. "I'm starting to think Charlie's your favorite."

"I am," I say.

"He's not," Patty giggles again. "He's just the only one who likes sweets. You and Wes only like meat."

"That's because we're real men," Wes mocks, now on the couch playing with our daughters and Wiley. I throw him a finger, which Patty misses because she's looking at Mitch.

"Work was good?" Patty asks Mitch.

"Yeah, it was good." But he grins. "But it's even better to be home."
