“Anything I tell you to,” I said in a low voice. God, I wanted to be there with her. Watch her as she explored her body and new sensations. Fuck, I was light-headed just thinking about it.

We went back and forth for twenty minutes, giving each other instructions and driving both of us wild in the process. I nearly didn’t make it, multiple times, and had to squeeze the base of my dick, trying like hell to stay in control. By the end,we were both panting, sticky, and satisfied. Well, maybe not totally satisfied. I would never be truly satisfied unless I was fully sheathed inside of my woman.

I went to bed that night feeling a weird mix of emotions. Pride that Maeve felt comfortable enough with me to take the risks she took tonight, which I knew wasn’t easy for her. Loneliness, which crept up on me every time I had to fall asleep without my personal koala cuddler. And something else, something that felt a lot of love.

The setting sun lit up the sky in beautiful pinks and oranges while Wyatt and I brought Jane on a walk after dinner. It was only early fall, but the days were already noticeably shorter. The temperature was cooler as well, but it was pleasant enough when the sun was out, like tonight.

After spending one night apart and being uncharacteristically bold on the phone with him, Wyatt had taken me on a surprise date. He lined up his dad, Charlie, to babysit so he could take me out properly. We laughed and talked for hours. I couldn’t think of a single time in my life that I felt this happy. Even having Josie back in town was turning out to be better than I could have anticipated. We still had a long way to go to mend, or build, our relationship, but it was nice to see her putting in the effort. Plus, she hadn’t gotten into any trouble since she had been in town as far as I was aware.

We walked back to my house, me pushing an empty stroller because Wyatt was carrying Jane. She was solidly into the stage now where getting her in and out of car seats or strollers was like trying to wrangle a demon. But happy as can be inWyatt’s arms, no one would have any clue that she could re-enact an exorcism simply by putting a strap across her lap.

An SUV was parked in front of my house, and as soon as we started to get close, Wes stepped out.

“Hey, man. What’s up?” Wyatt greeted him.

Wes had always been stoic and hard to read whenever we had hung out together, but today, he was even more so. His glance flitted to Jane, then Wyatt, landing on me.

“I need to talk to you. Both of you.” Wes’s low voice rumbled.

Just then, another SUV pulled up behind Wes.

“What are you doing here, Wes,” Luke said, his tone holding a note of caution.

“Same thing as you, I assume.”

“This has nothing to do with you. I don’t even know how you know yet.”

“The fuck this doesn’t have to do with me.”

Wes towered over Luke, but Luke was holding his ground, authority snapping in the air around them.

“What’s going on? You guys are making me nervous.” I told him.

Luke broke the staring contest to look over at me, then at Wyatt and Jane. Why were they both looking at Jane like that? Alarm bells were going off in my head. My heart was beating so wildly it felt like it was beating inside out.

“Why don’t we go inside.”

Wyatt’s arm tightened around Jane, and he pressed his other hand against my back as we walked into the house.

“Does anyone want something to drink?” I asked.

A chorus of no’s and no, thank you’s went up.

“Doll, let’s just sit down. Hear what they have to say.”

Wyatt and I sat on the small sofa with Jane. Wes took the armchair, leaving Luke standing.

“Oh, Luke. Let me get you a chair.”

I started to stand, but Wyatt placed his hand on my shoulder, pulling me back down, just as Luke responded, “I’m good. But thank you.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake. Are you going to spit it out or not,” Wes growled.

“Wyatt. Maeve. I wanted you to hear it from me before anyone else said something to you.” Luke shot Wes a glare before he continued. “But we’ve tracked down Jane’s family, including a grandmother on the mother’s side that is interested in obtaining custody of her.”
