Chapter Fifty
Kolton
What the fuck did he just say?
“A treaty?” Coyote says. “After all the bullshit, you walk in here, sweet talk my guys when I’m not around, and throw around the option of a goddamntreaty?”
Damn. Nowthat’sthe Prez we’ve been looking for.
“I know how it sounds, but let me explain,” Howler says.
Coyote lifts his gun. “You can explain it to my bullet when it’s between your eyes.”
“Listen to him,” Grizz growls. “For fuck’s sake.”
“Who’s side are you on?” my brother shouts.
“Who’s side areyouon?” Grizz returns, and we all know he’s talking about the issues with Coyote. He heard us talking about killing him, and I think he expected it to happen. Now we’re standing with him, side by side.
“The club’s,” my brother answers.
“Then listen,” Grizz urges.
Coyote glances at my brother, and they share a look. Coyote lowers his gun. “You’ve got thirty seconds.”
Howler nods and says, “We had a big blow out last night. A bunch of internal shit that’s been brewing for a long time. Sloth took off and wrecked. He was dead on impact.”
“What the fuck does that have to do with a treaty?” Coyote barks. “You’re not telling me a damn thing!”
“He was the one who had a problem with you guys. Well, him and a few others, but the majority of us are fucking sick of it. There’s no reason we can’t figure out a way to coexist. Come up with a plan that makes it easier on us all.”
“Why would you suddenly want to do that?” Coyote asks, his hand tightening around his gun.
“It’s not sudden,” Howler says. “A bunch of us have been trying to convince Sloth to do this for over a year, but Chisel wanted nothing to do with it years ago, and that’s what he held onto. Chisel was a prick every time we tried to figure shit out, and after a while, Sloth stopped trying. Said he was tired of being disrespected, and at the time, I agreed. Chisel was a prick.”
“That’s my father,” Coyote growls.
“Yeah, well… sorry, man.” Howler shrugs, and I can respect his honesty.
“Go on,” my brother says.
“We just want to talk and see what we can come up with. We’re tired of people dying, there are more important things to worry about. Let’s figure out a way to handle this. The border is big enough.”
“Oh, so this is what it’s about.”
“Obviously it’s about the border, but it’s more than that, too.”
Coyote shakes his head. “I’m too tired for this shit.”
“Same,” Shark mumbles, scrubbing a hand down his face.
Howler moves closer to Coyote. “Let’s talk tomorrow. I’ll ride up in the afternoon.”
Coyote looks at Shark, who shrugs.
“Sure, why the fuck not. But no promises. And don’t come here with an attitude because I swear to fuck I will shoot you. Now get out of my fucking town.” Coyote dismisses him with a wave of his hand.
Howler jerks his head and his guys follow after him. A moment later, their bikes rumble up and they’re gone.
