“Go look.” Atlas laughs, and I glare. I have to work on building that wall. In a split second, I’m standing in the bathroom.
What the fuck?
“You’ll adapt to the speed,” Luca says, standing behind me.
I shake my head and look into the mirror. Gripping the counter, I lean forward, staring at my wicked teeth. I touch the tip of my fang, and a thrill goes down my spine. I’m not afraid, only eager to try out my new body. My eyes are gorgeous. I grin. I liked them before, but seeing the white ring announcing I’m a mated vampire makes them extra special. My hair looks fantastic. It’s fluffy and brighter. Easing back, I look over my body. It feels the same, yet not. Everything is in its place, but I feel stronger. I have muscles where I was soft, as if I’m unbreakable. I twist back and forth. My image blurs in the mirror, and my eyes widen. The speed will trip me up for a while.
“How do you feel?” Atlas asks.
“Can’t you tell?” I ask.
“Until you can block your thoughts, I’m trying to stay out of them,” he says.
“That’s so sweet,” I say, and Luca rolls his eyes at his brother.
“Fine,” Luca grumbles. “I’ll do it too.”
“Thanks, boyfriend.” I smile. “My rabbit is happy. We were meant to be a hybrid. It’s odd because I feel the presence of this other being. Something stronger, more lethal. It’s not bad, justunusual. I think our emotions are separate from the demon right now but will soon become one. I have three personalities that are fierce, wanting different things.”
“We will help you as much as possible,” Atlas says.
“Everything will even out, and soon you won’t think of them separately,” Luca explains.
“My vampire wants control,” I say, pressing my palm to my chest. “She wants to feed.”
“What does your rabbit want?” Atlas asks, smiling.
“She wants you to fuck her,” I say.
“And you?” Luca lifts a brow.
“I want to run. Blurring is thrilling.” I turn to face them. “I also want all of the above.” So many tempting decisions. “Let’s do everything. What time is it?” I think about the clock in the bedroom, and then I’m standing in front of it. “Damn.” I laugh. “Three in the morning.” I spin toward them. “Blur first, then feed, and then sex.” I nod and walk into my closet.
“I see how we rank,” Luca teases.
“We can feed her while fucking her,” Atlas says.
“I like that plan.” I grab my jeans and tear the seam. “Oh, no.” I stare at my ruined jeans. “It’s going to take a long time to adjust to my strength.” Atlas appears in the closet, and I look at him sadly.
“Point to what you want,” he says softly. Pointing, I gasp as he drops to his knees.
“Atlas,” I whisper.
“Lift your foot.” I stare at the top of his head as he dresses me.
“Thank you.” He stands with a boyish grin, and I fall deeper in love. All the emotions I felt before for my boyfriends are magnified.
“Leave my shirt on,” he instructs, winking. By the time I get my wits together and leave the closet, he’s wearing a new shirt.
“I’m so excited.” I walk slowly toward them, holding my arms wide, as I attempt to slow my pace.
“We can see that,” Luca says dryly, his eyes sparkling.
“Hold my hand,” Atlas laughs, holding his hand out. I gratefully take it and I feel more grounded. My blood is pumping hard as we leave the apartment. They lead me to the darkest area around the back of the building.
“Walking in the shadows takes concentration and practice,” Luca says. “The difficulty is maintaining the speed and not revealing yourself to humans.”
“We have to be careful when we stop. It can’t be in a crowded area,” Atlas adds. “When we reach a certain speed, it doesn’t matter how many humans are around us, as long as you don’t bump into them. If you do, we will have to change the memories of numerous people.” I nod like a good student as he pauses. “We will hold your hands until you get the hang of it. That way, we can keep going if you falter.”
