Ginger:It was Vincent, or one of his men.

Ryder:So, you’re saying we have nothing to worry about?

Ginger:That’s what I’m saying. Looks like my two new sister-in-laws took care of our problems for us.

Ryder:Good.

Ryder:Any idea on when I can expect a brother-in-law? Our male to female ratio in this family is off now.

Ginger:Never.

Ryder:Not even a certain grease-stained mechanic, perhaps?

Ginger:In your dreams. Never gonna happen.

Ryder:Be careful sis, you may be eating your words one day.

Ginger:I’d rather eat one of Lottie’s rock-hard cookies.

Ryder:I’m telling her you said that.

Ginger:Go ahead, because me and Luca is never gonna happen.

Epilogue: Tess

ONE YEAR LATER

Trying to explain to teenage shifter boys why they aren’t allowed to shift whenever the hell they please, is harder than I expected. For some reason I always thought parents rigorously lectured their kids on how to behave so as not to be seen by humans in their true forms. Boy was I wrong, or at least partly. Luckily, I’m a fast runner, so I was able to catch up to them and tackle them to the ground before they got too far. Once I threatened to tell their parents and revoke their access to the Evans’ land, they begrudgingly shifted back and returned to class, fully clothed. Thank God.

Fucking shifters and their aversion to pants.

Some days I miss my crossbow. But Ryder says I’m not allowed to use it on the residents. Ugh. Being on the right side of the law is exhausting and has so many rules. Especially in a town of non-humans. There’s a specific set of rules for each species and sometimes keeping them straight is confusing. For instance, any species that can glamour, can be fully nude as long as their glamour projects clothing so humans can’t see them.

What is with non-humans and nudity? It took a few months to get used to seeing bare ass and balls so frequently without startling. Now I don’t even flinch when I catch a glimpse of a completely naked non-human walking down the street. Thanksto Ryder dusting me and giving me the sight, I can now see all non-humans in their true form at all times. I was shocked to realize over ninety percent of the town is made up of them.

I was a blind fool before I came to Snowberry. Since coming here, and deciding to stay and be Ryder’s mate, I have learneda lot. After shifters, fairies are my favorite. Larken is my best friend which I haven’t had since I was in high school, you knowbeforeI was committed and no one wanted to speak to me. I live in a house without wheels, and no one calls me crazy. Obviously, I took down my website and now occasionally help Ginger with online protection when needed.

All in all, life in Snowberry is as normal as it can be in a town filled with shifters, fairies, nymphs and merfolk.

I park my truck at Town Hall after ensuring the teenage shifters returned to school and stroll up the main steps towards the Sheriff’s office. I’m now a deputy. Deputy Tess Evans. Being an Evans’ is kinda cool. We’re like mini celebrities in town since Hunter is alpha and mayor and Ryder is the sheriff. Speaking of celebrities, here comes a real one now.

My now sister-in-law—totally weird still—Lottie the ex-pop star is entering Hunter’s office directly across from Ryder’s, double stroller and brand-new twin babies in tow. She just gave birth not long ago and my new niece and nephew are the most adorable blobs of baby cuteness ever.

“Lottie,” I call out, rounding the steps quickly to intercept her before she can disappear inside. I need me some baby cuddles and to sniff that new baby smell.

“Hey Tess. You on patrol today?”

“Yeah, just got back. What are you doing here?”

“Hunter is busy in his office but missed the twins, so I thought I’d bring them for lunch.”

Lottie turns the stroller revealing the wide-eyed twins staring back up at me. I bend down and baby talk to each, not stoppingtill I get a good giggle and screech out of each. They are happy little babies. I can already tell Savannah is going to be a little troublemaker like her Aunty Tess. We’re gonna have so much fun when she gets older.

“If you and Ryder are available, I’d love for you to join us for lunch. I was hoping to persuade Hunter out of the office and toDottie’sinstead of eating at his desk.” Lottie offers while slowly rolling the stroller back and forth to keep the twins from fussing now that they aren’t receiving attention.

“Yeah, I think we’re free for lunch. I’ll go get Ryder and meet you there?”

“Perfect. If you’re already there it’ll be easier to persuade Hunter.”
