“You see this ring? That’s not just jewelry, it’s a bond. A blood oath. One cough from me, and the men in plain clothes around this mall would swallow you whole. No questions asked.”

I leaned in slightly, lowering my voice so only she could hear. “And beyond that? I’m a scientist. Have you ever heard of ricin? Less than a grain of salt stops the heart. I could smear it on the tip of that straw, and you’d never even taste it. Don’t die over my husband.”

For a second, she just stood frozen, then she spun on her heels and stormed out of the store.

Judah slid a hand around my waist, pressing his mouth against my jaw. His whisper was almost a growl, “Say some shit like that again, and I’ll eat your pussy in the bathroom.”

I giggled, tugged his chin so he had to look me dead in the eyes. “Then don’t let another woman approach me.”

He smirked. “Yes, ma’am.”

I swatted his chest playfully and continued to find shoes that I wanted. I wasn’t bothered in the least bit by seeing Alexis and her comments about me not being his type. What did being his type get her?

After I finished going through the Kingsway Plaza like a madwoman, he carried all my things to the truck, and we got back inside.

His phone rang, and it was Storm. He put the phone on speaker.

“What’s up, Rainstorm?” He questioned.

“Nothing, is Ivy with you? We forgot to grab her number.”

“Don’t call me looking for nobody else,” he joked.

“Hey!” I cut him off and spoke to her.

“Hey boo, I wanted to know if it would be okay for us to throw you a bachelorette party. Me and the girls thought that it would be a good way for you to be introduced into the family and get you out of the house and have some fun.”

“That’s nice, I actually would appreciate that,” I smiled before Judah whipped his neck like I had cursed him out.

“Great, get my number from Judah so I can add you to our chat.” She said before I agreed, and he disconnected the call.

Judah was quiet, and his body was tense.

“What’s wrong with you?” I questioned.

“Baby…. I just don’t trust you with Storm. I love her, but you gotta be prepared to hang out with her. She’s little and she’s quiet, but that muhfucka is a thug. If anybody tells me they saw you standing on the couch, I’ma come show my ass Shorty.”

“No couches, unless-”

“Stop playing with me, Ivy.” He cut in, making me laugh.

I threw my head back, giggling. “Relax, baby. I promise, no couches. Unless it’s for sitting pretty.”

He gave me a side-eye, “Yeah, that’s what you say now until Storm has you full of hookah smoke and Hennessy.”

I slapped his arm. “Judah.”

He laughed this time, the sound rolling through the truck like he knew something I didn’t, as he reached over and squeezed my thigh. “Aight, don’t say I didn’t tell you. A party with Storm doesn’t stop; you’ll be on a table before you know it.”

“Then you better come dance with me,” I shot back.

He leaned over, kissed me slowly and deeply, then pulled back just enough to whisper.

“No standing on couches, Ivy.”

I smiled against his lips, “We’ll see.”

Even though I hadn’t really imagined wanting one, the thought of a bachelorette party was nice. It was such a sweet, thoughtful gesture, and I was genuinely touched that she had suggested it. I actually welcomed it. For once, I could let my hair down and just be me with no security and no Cartel. Just fun.
