“Exactly. I’d have loved to have a piece all to myself,” Lucy said. “But I need to be able to fit into my wedding gown. So, I’m glad we’re sharing.”

“Me, too,” Sadie said. “Your cousin hasn’t been very thoughtful. Waiting until the last minute to say, yes, for sure, she was coming to your wedding and to go ahead with the dress. What was that all about?”

“Her boyfriend. Whether she was going on a trip with him or not.” Lucy sighed.

“I see,” Sadie said. “So, I guess she isn’t going with him.”

“Oh, she is. He changed the date of the trip so she could do both.”

“That was nice of him.”

“Yes. Particularly since it was a work trip,” Lucy said.

“Nice of his company then, too.”

“Well, he owns the company,” Lucy said. “So, he has a lot of control over what he can do and when.”

“That’s not as easy as you might think,” Sadie said. “Look at Hank. He can’t change the dates he’s hired for. He can only say yes or no to a job.”

“I’m still able to control what I’m doing with my business, so far,” Lucy said. “That’s been great for taking off time to do wedding prep things and for the wedding and honeymoon.”

“Did Jack tell you where you’re going, yet?”

“No. It’s a big secret. Says he’ll tell me on our wedding night.”

“Wow. That is so romantic.”

It wasn’t feeling romantic to Lucy. She still had the urge to find out where they were going on the honeymoon. Right now, all she could fantasize about was what they would be doing once they got there.

“Hank is flying us to a larger airport,” Lucy said. “Does he know where we’re going?”

“Nope.” Sadie shook her head. “And I was told, that even if he learned where Jack was taking you, he wasn’t telling me—to help Jack keep the secret.”

“Oh, wow.” Lucy’s eyes widened. “I figured you two told each other everything.”

“No, not everything. There are still things Hank did when he was on active duty that he can’t tell me about, because of the security clearance, and I’m sure there are things about the security jobs he takes on that I don’t know. And I get that.”

“I get that, too. It’s going to be the same with Jack, I guess.”

“It will be,” Sadie said, nodding. “Just because your Marine can’t tell you everything, doesn’t mean he’s doing or has done anything wrong. This is part of the package you sign up for, when you say ‘I do’ and marry a man like that.’”

“Yeah,” Lucy nodded. “I guess you’re right.”

“And you won’t tell him everything either. I bet you didn’t tell him your cousin is liable to be busting out of her dress.”

“Oh. No, I didn’t tell him that.” Lucy laughed.

Sadie shook her head, chuckling. “See? We ladies have our secrets, too. Some secrets are okay. Communication and trust, that is what will make your marriage work.”

Lucy nodded. “You have a great marriage. That’s the kind I want.”

What Sadie said made a lot of sense. She thought about the bachelor party and the fact she was marrying a Marine.

“So, how do you get to the trust part?”

“If you give him trust, and it’s rewarded because he is worthy of your trust, then it will grow. It can multiply over the years,” Sadie said. “But I’ve seen it go the other way. If the guy isn’t worthy of her trust, then she’ll have trouble ever trusting him again. I don’t think you have anything to worry about with Jack, though. He’s a good man.”

Lucy’s gaze fell away. “I’m kind of worried about the bachelor party. I heard Marines get wild. That one had to be dumped into a swimming pool because he was so drunk, in order to make it to the wedding,” Lucy said. “Is that true?”
