Rock hated bureaucratic bullshit, but he’d tackle a mountain of it, if that was what it took. The strong bond between Rock and Hercules was unusual.

When they were together, Hercules could anticipate Rocks actions. They were good for each other and made a great working team. So much so that others had often remarked on it. In short, Rock and Hercules belonged together and anyone who had worked with them and seen them in action would have agreed. Rock had felt the loss of their separation more keenly than he’d let on to anyone. Now he couldn’t contain his excitement.

Hot damn, my buddy is coming home.

His phone rang and he looked down.

Hank.

He answered. “Hey Hank, you have a job for me?”

“Yes, I have one starting this weekend,” Hank said. “Private party. I need eight men.”

“I’m in,” Rock said.

“Great,” Hank said. “Our client mentioned there are a few hotheads on the guest list and he’s concerned about someone starting a fight. So, no low profile blending this time.”

“Visible as a bouncer,” Rock said. “Got it.”

For some, the sight of a big built guy was enough to keep them from starting fights.

“Hank, I just got some good news. Hercules is being discharged. I’m starting the paperwork to get him.”

“That’s great news,” Hank said. “He’s welcome to join our team. If that’s what you both want,” Hank said.

“Thanks, Hank,” Rock said. “That means a lot.”

Marilyn’s auditionthe next day had gone well though she hadn’t gotten the part she’d been trying out for.

Instead, the director had taken one look at her and asked her to read for a secondary part. The part was the girlfriend of a mobster who was on the outs with the mob.

The irony of that now struck her.

Did the director know who her boyfriend was?

Had Tony made a call?Who knew what his connections were?

Until yesterday she’d had no clue he might be a killer.

She’d only known he was well connected. He seemed to know everyone. Tony either knew a guy, or he knew a guy who knew a guy. She’d thought it was because of his restaurant business. Now she suspected it was the mob.

To reach her audition she’d used her phone to find the address and the GPS map to find the location, because the GPS on her car was broken. Despite the stress she’d been under leading up to the audition, she had aced the one for her part. Filming started one month from now. Till then, she had to leave town.

She had the script beside her on the seat, so she could study it and practice while she was away.

Marilyn turned her car to head onto the highway toward Sadie and Hanks place in Montana. With her two bags, she had everything she could take with her right now.

She picked up her phone and dialed Sadie.

“Hello, Marilyn,” Sadie said. “How did your audition go?”

“I got a part,” Marilyn said. “We start filming next month.”

“That’s great!” Sadie said. “Congratulations!”

“Thanks!” she said. “I’m driving now. Heading to your place.”
