“You don’t need to repay me,” Sadie said. “Oh, but wait. There is one thing. I’d love to attend the premier of your movie with you. We could double date. Me and Hank with you and your bodyguard.”
“Oh, that would be fun,” Marilyn said. “Done.” She eyed three of the men who were down by the barn, talking.
All were big strong handsome guys. One of them was Rock.
She watched him and smiled, thinking of attending the premier with him to escort her. He would look great in a tux, that tanned skin, those muscles.
Tony would lose it if we showed up at the premier together. That would be like saying, my muscle guy is bigger than yours. Which Rock was. Bigger than any of Tony’s guys were. And it would look like she’d replaced Tony, who people were used to seeing her out with. And the only way for Tony to get invited was for one of the cast or crew to get him in. Tickets were coveted and Tony liked to be seen and to show her off.
“No more premieres for you, Tony,” she said.
“His loss,” Sadie said. “Though losing you is the greater loss.”
“Aww, thanks Sadie,” Marilyn said.
Sadie was the best kind of friend. Always a boost your spirits person. An uplifter.
Marilyn was enjoying every minute with her friend and knew the month would go by quickly before they started shooting the movie.
She was still eying Rock as he carried something in a big case to his SUV. “I’ll need to get up the nerve to ask him,” she said. “Unless he has a girlfriend.”
She knew he wasn’t married or divorced. He’d been busy in Delta Force and had never settled down with anyone. But that didn’t mean he didn’t have a girlfriend. Or two.
“Who, Rock?” Sadie asked.
Marilyn nodded.
“Currently no girlfriend,” Sadie said. “The last one didn’t like dogs and she also moved away.”
“Not liking his dog would be a deal breaker I would think,” Marilyn said.
“True. But this isn’t exactly a big town with a lot of women to ask out,” Sadie said. “He and Hercules have a small cabin not far from here and it’s very much a bachelor pad.”
“Maybe he likes it that way,” Marilyn said.
“I don’t know about that,” Sadie said. “He keeps dating. He just hasn’t found the right woman yet.”
“Hmm,” Marilyn said, thinking but keeping her thoughts to herself. What kind of woman would be the right woman for Rock? She’d have to love Herc.
Noting Sadie was watching her closely, she changed the subject. “I need to start working on my lines tonight after dinner.”
“I’ll help you when you’re ready,” Sadie said.
“Thanks, Sadie,” Marilyn said.
* * *
The next day,Marilyn decided to invite Rock to the premier.
If he said no, Sadie said Hank could assign one of the others to act as bodyguard and event escort. Either way one of them would be with her, but she really wanted it to be Rock.
She found him on the shooting range at the ranch and watched from a distance at first.
When he took his ear protection off, she went up to talk to him. “Hey, Rock.”
“Hey yourself, beautiful,” he responded.
She turned pink from her neck to her ears and she could feel the heat in her face. It was unusual the way he could make her blush. With Tony she’d never blushed.
