“Okay,” she said.

He began to move them out slowly. They crossed from tree to tree, and she heard nothing from the two men and saw no signs of them.

A bullet whizzed through the trees hitting the tree just to the right of her, behind her, spraying bark against her back and she screamed.

Chapter 8

Rock movedher behind him quicker than she could think and sunk down into a shooting position then fired.

Hercules had sunk to the ground with him and was still down.

Something thudded on the ground in the direction the shot had come from.

“Did you get one of them?” she asked.

He nodded. “Shh,” he said, holding a hand up, still listening.

She and Herc both watched his hand.

Nothing seemed to move or make a sound other than a bird cawing.

He gave the sign to move forward, and they slowly made their way toward the bottom of the mountain.

It seemed to be going well. Too well. Something about that didn’t sit right with Rock. This was too easy. It could be they were heading into a trap, but they had to keep moving down the mountain.

Lightning and thunder crashed overhead, lighting up the dark sky briefly. Rain began to fall more heavily.

Now Marilyn was soaked even more than before in her cotton sundress and beginning to shiver, thought that was probably just nerves. The sundress plastered to her body, making her embarrassed when Rock looked at her.

He couldn’t mistake her curvy form in the soaking wet sundress which emphasized everything beneath it. She probably looked like a woman from a B movie, made to show off her assets. It made her feel even more vulnerable.

For a summer rain the raindrops were chilling or maybe that was her nerves.

They kept moving down the mountain, Herc low and crouching, Rock crouching in front of him leading the way and Marilyn coming behind Rock as he shielded her with his body.

He moved with such quiet stealth for such a large man.

She watched him and realized that had to be his Delta Force training.

But where was Tony and where was Cleo? Rock had shot one of them, but had he killed him?

The men had gone too quiet and even if Rock had killed one of them, he hadn’t killed them both. It made her nervous, not knowing where Tony was. She followed behind Rock, trusting he knew what he was doing. It kept her fear from being full blown, but she was still afraid.

Tony could be anywhere.

Rock paused listening to his earpiece.

“Ten paces, to your right,” Kujo spoke, his quiet voice breaking the radio silence.

“Copy,” Rock spoke low.

Their target was in sight, they just had to close in.

Tony saw Rock and fired at him, anger filling his face as he snarled, “You have my woman.”

“No!” Marilyn screamed.

The bullet hit Rock in the chest, and he took the impact, falling back.
