Oh no. How the hell did she figure this out? Maybe Patrick told Oliver and he told her? But I can’t believe Patrick would do that, at least not intentionally.
A separate text from Stella pops up.
Stella
Mads, now’s the time to deal with this. I’m going to be in trouble too, but you need to come clean. I’m in a meeting. Talk to Reese
More texts from my oldest sister roll in.
Reese
I don’t understand what’s going on. I’m kind of freaking out
Reese
I happened to click on your contact and realized location tracking was still on. When I checked, it showed you in England
Reese
Can you please call me when you can? Maddie?
“Oh. My. God.” I press the screen of my phone to my chest.
That’swhat got me caught? I’d shared my location indefinitely with Reese when I moved in with her and Oliver. As a single woman, it’s a good idea to let someone know where you are at all times.
I guess I never turned it off. Oops.
Me
I will call you back in five
I cross the walkway and find a bench beneath a tree. It’s cool and cloudy but at least it’s dry today. I’ve confirmed in my two weeks here that it’s just as wet in London as it is in Dingle. I take a few deep breaths and remind myself that I can make my own decisions about my life, and I don’t need approval from my older sister.
“Maddie!” She answers the phone before I even hear it ring.
“Hi, Reese.”
“I’m so glad to hear your voice. You’re in England? What’s going on?” Reese has panic in her voice, and a pang of guilt stabs my heart.
“I don’t know where to start.”
“How about with where you are?”
“London.”
“Oh.” She pauses. “Did you finish your internship early?”
“Not exactly.”
“Maddie?” Reese lets out a noisy breath. “Can you fill me in? Please?”
“I’m going to give you the sixty second—maybe slightly longer—summary. Just let me get through it, okay?”
“Go ahead.”
I fill my lungs with air. Here we go.
“Blue dumped me. He was cheating on me with some new girl in Saint Lucia.”
