She smirks and shifts her hips from side to side, rubbing herself against me. I groan appreciatively and claim her warm lips. The world disappears and I am consumed by her. She opens to me, and I slide my tongue along hers. The reins fall from my hands, and I cup her sex. She starts, whimpering into my mouth, and I hold her tighter. She sighs and settles against me as I caress her.
Kor’Tar bucks his hind legs with an indignant grumble, forcing us to bump forward and separate. I hiss out a curse, clamping my thighs around Kor’Tar’s torso to keep us both seated.
“Sorry, boy.” Lily giggles and pets his mane. “He can’t keep his hands off me, can he? Just like you can’t keep off any mare you find. Who learned it from whom?”
She looks over her shoulder with a wink that softens my annoyance at my horse.
Smoke wafts on the breeze from the foot of the pass and my eyes trace over the trees until I find the source. It’s a large trade village nestled among the forest that will most certainly have a place for us.
“We’ll rest there for tonight and develop our plan,” I say as I urge Kor’Tar toward the village.
“Our plan for trying not to die?” Lily says with a sarcastic lilt.
I nip the top of her ear. “No, the plan for making you come five times.”
She giggles again, her hand falling to mine over her stomach. “Well, you can start on your knees, and then spread mine—”
“Are you still clothed?” I cut in.
“Yes, I’m still clothed. I want you to undress me in typical Alastair fashion.” She shimmies her shoulders.
My hand slides up her stomach to cup her breast. “You mean ripping your blouse down the middle?”
She hums approvingly and Kor’Tar flaps his lips in annoyance. The horse is too smart for his own good.
We reach the town and easily get lost in the crowd. It’s on the brink of summer, and the village is setting up to host droves of merchants and travelers. Spice traders from my home country of Illya pass us and give me a respectful dip of their heads that I return, but lower.
The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end as we reach the inn, but when I look behind us, I see no one that could’ve offended my demon in such a way. There are so many people moving about, so many glancing but moving on, no one staring in the sort of way that would trigger my senses. I give one more cursory glance around the muddy causeway, then hurry my princess inside to make good on my promise.
Five.
Chapter thirty
Lily
We had to silence-ward the entire room three times before Alastair was satisfied, and then he fulfilled his promise. He laid out all our furs on the bed and lavished me with attention for an hour before locking me in the room to go get us some dinner.
After we ate, he fucked me hard and fast from behind, shattering my world and the headboard. I laughed as I pieced it back together with my magic, and as soon as that was done, he filled me slowly and lovingly, taking his time.
I got a good night’s rest to say the least. But it’s morning now and Fynren Kingdom looms just a half-day’s ride away.
What am I going to do? How can I get back into the palace to warn my sisters? At least Alyse will be safe. Her magus ability made her a boon for diplomatic relations with the cold war kingdom across the sea, Wolfsheim. But Reina…
As much of a little shit as she’s been to me the last decade, I still won’t let our murderous mother turn a wrathful eye on her, for surely she’s next. What if Mother’s already hurt her in the ways she hurt me? What if the four years I was gone, she was already working her dark spells on my littlest sister?
Dread spools out from the pit of my stomach and wraps its tendrils around my heart. Gods, I’ve been a bad sister. It doesn’t matter that Reina made my life hell; she was missing Belle dearly and just didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know how to cope without her either. She’d always been an endless source of love and encouragement.
I should’ve been that for Alyse and Reina…
But there’s no point in worrying about whatshouldhave been. There’s only what I can do now, and I’m going to do absolutely everything I can to protect them from here on.
“What’s going on in there, Lily?” Alastair asks as he tucks a windswept bit of hair behind my ear.
“Kor’Tar always seems to rock me into a lull where my thoughts run wild,” I say.
“Oh? How wild?” he asks in a low, seductive voice that turns my insides to liquid fire.
I chuckle. “Notthatwild.”
