You’re stuck with us forever.

“I didn’t expect that,”I tell Sasha as I sip my coffee. “I didn’t expect any of this.”

“Wow, me neither,” she says as I finish telling her everything. “So what are you going to do?”

“I don’t know. It doesn’t feel right in the garden shed. It doesn’t feel like home anymore. Home was with Ty.”

“It still can be, it sounds like,” she says with a shrug of her shoulders.

I raise my eyebrows at her. “Not you, too.”

“What?” she hedges. “I like Ty. I think he’s good for you and Kase. I heard your side, but I’m wondering what he has to say. Aren’t you?”

“Maybe a little,” I agree. My phone buzzes and I look down.

Ty

Can you meet me at the greenhouse tonight at dusk? I have something for you.

Mellie

What is it?

Ty

Just please be there. It’s very important. You won’t want to miss this.

Mellie

Fine. I’ll text when I head that way.

Ty

I love you.

I start to say it back and then stop. I can’t tell him that right now, not when I’m still pissed. It doesn’t mean I don’t still love him, though. I love him so much my chest aches. I want his arms around me so badly. I want him to tell me that it’s going to be okay. But he broke something in me, and I can’t tell if I’m too stubborn to fix it or if it’s broken for good.

Maybe I need time on my own, so I can figure out for myself what my life is going to be.

Sasha refills my coffee and tops it off with cream. “It’s going to be okay, honey. It’s just a rough patch. You don’t think Pete and I fight sometimes? We do. I know you like to think everything is peachy, but everybody has their issues.”

I nod and take a sip of coffee. “I’m going to meet him tonight out by the greenhouse. He said he has something to show me.”

“Oh? Well keep me posted.”

“I will. Thanks, Sasha,” I call as I take my mug and head to Evan’s office at the front of the inn.

I knock and he says, “Come in.”

“Hi,” I say as I sit across from him at his desk.

“Did you talk to him?”

I shake my head. “Not yet. I’m meeting him tonight. Know anything about that?” I ask. Evan’s face doesn’t change, but I see it in his eyes. He knows. “What’s he doing?”

“No clue,” he says with a shrug, even though it’s obvious that he does.
