“You tell me. I’m here. The inn is safe. Caleb is healthy. I have you back… almost. What’s next?”
I look at him and think for a minute. “I want you to meet Cara and her family. They’re so important to me. Aside from Logan, they’re the only family I have…”
“Besides us at home…” He smiles.
Home. I like that I have a home now. “Wait a minute, how did you find me and figure out where I was?”
He grinned. “Steve and Cara. I texted Cara from the airport and Steve came to get me.”
“Oh good. I’m glad I get to finally share you with them.”
“Glad to meet them.”
Just then, I realize something huge I missed back home at the inn. “Oh my gosh! How was the festival? Tell me everything.”
“A huge success, thanks to you and your hard work. Everyone misses you. Apparently the town has voted you the unofficial mayor.”
“I miss them all, too. Do you think they’ll be surprised when I come back?”
“Well, I’ll put it this way. If I don’t bring you home with me, I probably just shouldn’t ever go home again. They’re pretty mad at me.”
I frown at the thought of his family being mad at him. “I’m sorry I missed the festival.”
“You can be at every other one from here on out.”
“Deal.”
“And the puppies miss you,” he says, dragging a fry through ketchup.
My chest swells. “I have to take care of some things here first, but I’ll come back with you.”
“I’ll help you,” he says as he looks at me, his sea green eyes reaching mine.
“I love you.”
“I love you, maybe more.”
“No more maybes for us,” he says, pulling me closer.

EVAN
Do you think there’s room for me?
* * *
I hold Beth’s hand as we enter Cara and Steve’s home. They’re in the kitchen and their girls are at the counter coloring.
Cara hugs me immediately. “It’s so great to finally meet you.” Then she turns to Beth and mouths, “He’s so hot.”
Beth grins as she shrugs her shoulders and says, “I know.”
Steve rolls his eyes and nudges me. “So, it looks like things went well?”
“They did. Thanks again for coming to get me,” I tell him.
“No problem. Want a beer? I’m going to fire up the grill in a little bit.”
