“You said you wouldn’t chase me.”
“Some things are worth chasing, Beth. You’re worth it. We’re worth it. We both deserve this.” He nods to their headstone. “They would want you to be happy.”
“I had to tell them about you.”
He doesn’t say anything but his arms flex around me. “Tell me about them. Introduce me.”
“I can’t forget them.”
He hugs me tighter. “Emmie and John will never be forgotten. Our children will know them, our family will know them, we will all celebrate and love them.”
Tears flow again but these are tears of relief and happiness. I wasn’t sure how I could merge my two worlds, but somehow, I just know it will work out. It might be messy and painful at times, but it’s going to be okay.
I lean back into him. “John, meet Evan. Evan, meet John.”
“I’ll take care of her, I promise,” he says quietly.
“Thank you for coming for me,” I say, turning around and getting lost in his green eyes.
“I will always come for you, Beth. Always.” He leans in and kisses my neck.
A little bit later, we walk down the hill and I stop and look back.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“I don’t want to leave them.”
“We’ll never leave them. We’ll come back as often as you want.”
“Okay.”
We get into Cara’s borrowed SUV. I look at him and just smile. “I’m so glad you’re here.”
“Me too.” He leans in and kisses me.
“Are you hungry?” I ask.
“I’m starving.”
“I know a place.”

We end up at a diner called Tillie’s and slide into a booth across from each other. A server comes over and hands us our menus.
I reach over and squeeze his arm. He stands up then scoots in beside me, putting his arm around me so we can look at the menu together. I love that he wants to be near me. I never want to leave him again.
“I have to ask you something,” he says.
“What?” I say as I scan the menu.
“Did you pay off the loan for the inn?” he asks, his eyes softly searching mine.
I don’t look at him but my eyes widen slightly. “Why would you ask that?”
“Did you?” he asks again, gently.
Finally, I say, “I’d do anything for you and the inn. I love you. I love all of you.”
