I scowled, confused."That doesn't make sense."

"It wouldn't, if it was an issue of controlling his strength, but it's a mating thing."

She'd piqued my curiosity with that."Is it something that will pass if we seal the mating?"

"Thankfully, no."She smiled again."Though some things may change."

"Like what?"I asked, adding."If it's not too personal to ask."

"Not at all."She smiled warmly."I started healing faster. In fact, both of our healing speed increased after we sealed our mating. There are other things too, but I'll let you find those out for yourself."

I couldn't help but smile back, despite my embarrassment."Thanks for letting me know.I'll share it with Devon, but not until the time is right."I gave her a secretive smile.

Karen laughed."I don't know how much longer Bill's going to be.Do you want me to have him call you?"

"No, I'm good.I just wanted to make sure he was aware of everything, and ask for some help, but it's already taken care of.Thanks for that.Really."

"No problem, it's just part of the job."She assured me.

"I guess I'll head home, see what we need to do about the bike and if there's anything we can salvage."

"Let us know if you need anything."She said, getting up to walk me out.

We said our goodbyes, and I left, heading to Devon's apartment to see what he'd learned today.

I discovered when I got to Devon's that the police had taken the bike with them and Devon had already contacted his insurance company. It looked like it was going to be a total loss.

"How long do you think it'll take to get the money?"I asked from where I laid on Devon's couch, my head in his lap.

"A week or two, maybe as long as a couple of months if I don't push."

"Have you looked at what a replacement will cost?"

"Not yet."He shook his head."A bike was convenient while I was gone.I never needed to haul much, and it was no problem to get transported when I was transferred. Now, I have the truck. It's more practical here.I'm not sure if I should replace it."

"It's up to you, but I'll miss it, if you don't get another."

"Me too.I don't know what I'm gonna do yet."

We spent the evening together, watching a film and just enjoying each other's company, before it got too late, I went home to bed.

Chapter 15

Though Devon and I had been sleeping together for a couple of weeks, we still usually spent the nights alone, in our own beds.Recently, I'd had a string of disturbing dreams, dreams that woke me in the middle of the night, but left me unable to remember exactly what it had been about. After about a week, I was more than ready for it to stop.

Another night, another dream.I woke slowly, the remnants of the dream clinging stubbornly to the edges of my mind.I rolled over to look at the clock, 2:30am.Not again. For the last few nights, I've been woken in the dead of night, unable to get back to sleep before my alarm went off.

Knowing I had little chance of getting any more sleep, I got up.I figured starting the day a couple of hours early would be better than lying there awake, tossing and turning. After showering, I dressed for work and wandered into the kitchen to fix breakfast.I opened the refrigerator door and peered inside, trying to decide what to eat.Nothing appealed to me.I closed the door with a sigh, and flopped down in a nearby dining chair.

I sulked for a few minutes, then decided to make muffins.I never had time to make fresh muffins before work, and it would be nice to take some into my boss, too.I got up, and pulling out dishes and ingredients, set to work.

Later, as I was pulling the first pan of muffins out of the oven, and sliding the second in, I heard a knock on my apartment door.I set the timer before going to see who else was up this early.

I knew before reaching door, that Devon was on the other side, and I was smiling before I opened the door.Even this early, with so little sleep, Devon could make me smile.

"What are you doing up this early?"I let him inside and closed the door.

"I came up to ask you the same thing."
