CHAPTER25
Mac watched Elyse go into the bedroom then back across the short hall to the bathroom, a ball of clothes tucked under her arm.
"Sir?"the voice in his ear called his attention back to the fact he was on the phone.
"Yeah, they said it would be ready about 6:15.Pick it up and deliver it to me."
"Your place?"Jake asked.
"The house next door, like last time."Mac glanced toward the bathroom where the shower had just come on.
"You got it.Anything else?"
"Nah, that's all.Well, that and any tow calls that come in tonight. You're on duty for those."
"Of course," Jake paused a moment, "I'll see you in an hour, maybe a little more, depending on if they're on time with your order."
"All right."Mac disconnected the call and set the phone on the table holding the TV as he passed. An hour gave him enough time to join Elyse in the shower.
Mac chuckled and rolled off the bed as the rumbling engine of the tow truck cut off outside.
"Where you going?"Elyse's voice was slow and relaxed. She lay on the bed staring up at him as he tugged on his jeans.
"To get our dinner."
"I thought you said it would be delivered."
"I did, and it just pulled up."
Her eyes went wide, and a high pitched squeal came out of her when the doorbell rang.Mac shook his head and left her to her thing as he went to retrieve the food.
He'd accepted the bags from Jake and closed the door, turning for the kitchen when movement from the edge of his vision caught his attention.Mac turned and found Elyse standing in the doorway to the hall wearing what looked like nothing but his t-shirt.Damn, she looked fine in his clothes. He had to fight the urge to drop the bags where he stood, sweep her of her feet and take her back to bed.Though his shirt on her felt nice too, it was her body and the look she gave him that were the most tempting.Seeing her wear his shirt sent a shot of something possessive through him.As if it was a way to show who she belonged to.Not that he thought of her like property, even if that was how club culture worked. His ma would smack him upside the head if he treated any woman like property.
"Come on, let's go eat."He lifted the bags to show her it had arrived.
"I'm in."
Mac held back and let her go in front of him, leading the way into the kitchen.Might as well take every advantage of the view.
After dinner Mac put the leftovers in the fridge while Elyse dealt with the rest, which meant gathering bags and cartons and stuffing them into the trash can.
"What now?"She turned back to him and leaned one hip against the counter.
"What do you want to do?"He finished his chore and closed the distance between them.
Her head tilted back to watch him as he approached, a light in her eyes told him that she wasn't unhappy to see him coming.
"We could go out and watch the sunset if you like or find something on TV."He waited to see her reaction, then had to resist the urge to run a finger along the ridge of her nose as she wrinkled it.
"Neither of those sounds quite right."
"Do you have any suggestions?"He suspected she did from the mischievous light in her eyes.
"I might."She turned away from him, starting for the living room only to pause in the doorway and look back over her shoulder."You coming?"She disappeared around the corner before he could answer.A second later his t-shirt flew into view and fell empty to the floor. The thought of her wandering around wearing nothing but that teasing smile got him moving. If that was what she wanted tonight, he was definitely game.
CHAPTER26
Elyse woke to darkness. Not sure why she was awake or what had woken her, she lay still, listening and trying to remember what had woken her.Had it been a dream or something else? The bed shifting reminded her she wasn't alone, and she reached out trying to find Mac.There he was,Elyse settled back against his reassuring warmth and tried to relax.A moment later he rolled over, wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer against him.
