Mac glanced around and spotted what she had to be talking about."That's the Mormon church. There are several of them in the area."

"That's a church?I thought maybe a school from the size."

Mac chuckled."I think the only schools around here that are that big are the college and probably the high schools."

"College? From the way you talked, I didn't think there would be enough people for a college."

"It's a community college and not a big one."

They passed through the first town and once more found empty fields with the remnants of the summer's cotton crop littering the edges.

"That can't be all of it."The disbelief in Elyse's voice made Mac laugh again.

"No, that's just the first of three little towns.Give us a minute."

Sure enough, about five miles later they hit the second town.

"All right, start looking around."

"For what?"She sounded puzzled.

"Any place that looks like you'd want to eat there.I think I know where we're headed but let me know if you see anything."

"Will do."

Her grip around his middle was relaxed as she looked around, checking out the town and looking for somewhere to eat.

"Is that the college?"

"It is.It's a block wide and stretches back about three blocks deep."

"Three square blocks? That's almost as big as U of A."

"Not really.U of A is city blocks, this is just between one street and another."

Elyse didn't respond, only kept looking around.

"There's aDenny's," she said after a couple minutes, "and there's a pizza place, but it looks closed.

"It probably is.A lot of places are on Sunday."They went a little farther and had to stop for a red light.

"Well, if all else fails, we can always haveTaco Bell."

Mac glanced at the little building on the other side of the stop light. They were doing a good amount of business, especially for such a small building.

"I'll go back and go toDenny'sbefore that happens."

"Don't likeTaco Bell?"

"Not particularly.I'm not big on any fast food Mexican.I'd rather find some small family place that serves the real thing."

"I get that."

The light turned green and he started the bike moving again. They didn't have much farther to go, before they reached the next light, he pulled into the turn lane, then into the parking lot of a small strip mall whose biggest store was aSafeway. From the number of cars parked outside, it looked like the place he had in mind was open.He parked near the lone building in one corner of the lot and killed the engine.

"I knew we'd find a place.Ready to get off the bike for a while?"

Elyse stepped off the back of the bike, almost as if she'd been doing it for years."More than.I don't mind the sitting so much, but I'm not used to the vibrating."
