“Jeez, I want to be in a world of trouble with Rennie,” Alyssa says, “That was hot.”
I just smile and bite my tongue.
“What’s going on with you two?”
Shall I tell her? Can I?Fuck it, I’ve got to tell someone, this is eating me alive.
“If you speak a word of this to anyone else, I’ll fire you as both my friend and colleague.”
“Of course,” she nods frantically.
“I mean it. You’ll never work in cheese again.”
“Cross my heart,” she says, adding the gesture over her chest for good measure.
“We hooked up.”
“What?”
“Well, sort of, I mean, I’m pretty useless at the moment,” I point to my wrist, still ensconced in this awful wrist guard at Rennie’s insistence. “But the other night I told him I was feeling frustrated, you know, sexually, and then—“
“And thenwhat?”
“And then he made me come.”
“Jesus christ,” she bites her fist. “I need details, babe.”
“Hand stuff and mouth stuff.”
“Jesus. Fucking. Christ.”
“I know! I can barely breathe.”
“Was he good?”
“Don’t ask stupid questions, Alyssa.”
“I can’t believe it. This calls for champagne.” She dashes around, looking for a bottle. “Oh shit, can you drink right now? Are you on painkillers?”
“I can, but you can’t. It’s 11am and you’re running my shop, remember?”
“Oh shit, yes. Sorry, boss.” She stares at me and shakes her head slowly in disbelief until we both collapse in a fit of giggles.
An hour later and Rennie is back looking as hot as ever. Unfortunately, he also looks livid, as I’m on my feet behind my counter, apron on, back where I belong.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?”Oops.
“How were the kids?” I ask, avoiding his furious glare.
“They were good. Sit down. Now.”
I prance over to the chair, making a show of just how capable I am, and Alyssa comes through from the kitchen out back.
“Alyssa, you and I are about to fall out,” he says, eyes locked on mine. “You had one job.”
“Telling this one to keep still? Yeah, I’m not qualified, sorry,” she smirks at me behind his back.
The bell above the door jingles and I lean past Rennie’s frame to see Shauna Leary coming into the shop. She looks around, her gaze eventually landing on Rennie’s back.
