I bit my lip, interested.

“When?”

“Tomorrow,” he said without hesitation. “Straight after work.”

I considered. I wouldn't say no to ending the week with a good time, but the idea also made me nervous for some reason. Probably because, despite myself, I really liked this guy.

“I'm done at five,” I said. “Where do you want to meet?”

“At your office building. I'll be there at five,” he promised.

I didn't want this thing between us to end, but I needed to see him, to talk to him properly, to yes, sit on that thick knot at the very least before deciding that this was a bust... hopefully if we met, it went well. I wanted him in all the ways, not just the sexy ones.

“Clay, I need you to stay after work.”

I practically jumped out of my skin, swinging around to face Mr. Kort as though he was an axe murderer. Well, hewasseriously interfering with my love life right now, so same thing, really.

“What?” I demanded. “No. I can't. I have plans.”

He gave me a hard look and I knew I had no choice.

“Be in my office at five,” he ordered and there was a hint of warning in his tone to match up with the look in his eyes.

I watched him walk away, his tail whipping in irritation behind him and cursed under my breath.

“What did you do now?” Lloyd asked.

I shook my head, unsure. Maybe I wasn't wrong about him after all. The guy was a total hard ass. I pitied whoever he was trying to date online.

Speaking of which...

I pulled out my phone and went to my chat with Sal, heart sinking as I wrote him a message.

Hey. My boss wants to talk to me after work. Can we meet a bit later?

I set my phone down, next to my keyboard, waiting for a reply. When one didn't come in an hour, I sent another one.

I really do want to meet you if you think I'm trying to bail. Hell, I'll bail on my boss instead if you want. Fuck him. Please be here to pick me up like you promised.

He didn't answer for another long stretch, but this time, didn't leave me hanging.

Don't worry. I'll be there. Right at your desk at five PM sharp.

I snorted. He didn't even know what floor I worked on. I'd told him the building last night, but that was all.

Good.Can't wait to see you.

With that settled, I worked the rest of my shift, already trying to come up with an excuse for tomorrow morning as to why I wasn't going to show up at Mr. Kort's office tonight.

'I had a date' probably wouldn't go over so well. I'd just have to go with the tried and true; food poisoning. 'Sorry, I had the shits', was hard to argue with.

Nodding to myself, I tapped my feet, anxiously waiting for the day to end so I could finally see my mystery man face-to-face.

But to my chagrin, just as I was powering down my computer, my green tinted boss came sauntering down the carpet toward me. He stopped just behind me, clearly waiting, his smirk growing at the obvious distress on my face.

Shit!

Why the hell had he come here to collect me like I was some little kid who couldn't be trusted not to wander away.
