“Hopefully faster than you found yours,” she teased, but I agreed. I did not wish the loneliness that I had lived on anyone.
To come and go—to live multiple lives and reach the end of each one still without your Sul was unbearable.
“Hopefully,” I agreed sincerely.
“Will you go to them now?” she asked.
I nodded.
“I will try.”
Chapter Four
ROBIN
I knew I shouldn’t be texting at work, but I couldn’t stop myself. There was something about Luno. Even beyond his striking appearance. The very way he wrote, the way he phrased things seemed to draw me in. Even with just the short exchange we’d had so far.
I finished plating the table I was working on and glanced around. The others were on the other side of the hall, setting up the dessert table.
“Just going to the washroom!” I called and beelined for the nearest bathroom.
My phone was in my hand before I was even in the stall.
I locked it and sat on the closed lid, rereading his words.
Please do not leave me alone.
I knew he didn’t mean it that way. He obviously wasn’t familiar with the way we phrased things here. English was probably programmed into a chip in his ear, or something he’d studied at length. Either way,he didn’t mean it that way and he’s not talking to you!
I had to shake myself to remember that tiny little detail.
As far as Luno was concerned, I was Taylor. He probably didn’t even know I existed. I paused. Well, Iwasin that hiking picture with Taylor, so maybe he did, but that was beside the point.
Sighing, I tried to force myself back on track. I wanted to know more about him.
What do you do?
I am the ambassador for planet Mayara and the Visaka Quadrant.
I stared.
Holy shit. I’d really hit the ball out of the park with this one. Taylor better be thrilled.Iwould be if Luno was interested inme.
Wait… doesn’t that mean you already have a ticket for the Cherry Blossom Ball?
Allow me a moment to ask my secretary.
I bit my thumbnail while I waited impatiently. As far as I knew, all the embassies in the city were gifted them. I couldn’t take too much time without getting back out to work. Luno didn’t even need a ticket. Taylor had a plus one. That was the whole point.
I do have two tickets.
Great! Then we should meet there! Does that work for you?
I was definitely jumping the gun, but there was less than a week left to set this up and I wanted to secure something fast to give Taylor some time to warm up to the idea.
No.
For a moment I was devastated until the next message came through.
