“He let you leave?”

Ember laughed.

“Hell no. I knocked him out.”

For a moment, I stared at Ember, shocked as his words rang in my head.

“Wait. Information?”

He bit his lip, looking up at me like he thought I was about to get mad.

“It was Lambert. He said he knew Asha’s location.”

Unable to believe it, I let go of him and walked to the room he had just left. The door was still wide open and sure enough, there was the bastard I’d thought I’d already dealt with lying face down on the bed, the smashed remnants of a table lamp littering the cushions around him.

I considered carrying out my promise and killing the persistent asshole, but he looked so pathetic lying there that it didn’t seem worth the hassle.

Impressed, I looked back at Ember, who shrugged.

“He was a bit heavy, but I wiggled out from under him,” he said nonchalantly. “I may be your omega, Coal, but I can take care of myself too.”

I nodded.

“Evidently.”

Ember wasn’t like the omegas I’d known in my life. He wasn’t the sweet, quiet type that had been sheltered forever. He was a strong, independent man who deserved to be respected for all he’d been through and especially for his strength.

“I’ve been an idiot,” I said. “I was trying to shelter you. I didn’t want you to worry so I hid what I was planning from you.”

Ember frowned, watching me, waiting.

“I had a P.I. following the men who took Asha. He found her and, last night, I got her back.”

Ember’s hands shook when he reached forward, putting them on my arms.

“Are you for real?”

I nodded.

“She’s home, Ember. She’s safe. All that’s missing isyou.”

“What about the fight league?” he asked, voice trembling. “They want a lot.”

“I arranged a trade with Abram,” I explained. “I’m going to fight for you, Ember. Literally.”

Ember stared, a fresh wave of tears filling his eyes.

I pulled him into a tight embrace, squeezing my eyes shut.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered and then, unable to stand the other alpha’s scent any longer, I pressed my face into his scent gland, scenting him.

Ember shivered.

“Please tell me you’ll come home,” I begged.

Ember nodded.

“I thought that being there... I thought I was in the way.”
