Without Ember by my side, knowing that he was out there somewhere... it took something from me. A forgiving, loving part of my heart was now hollow and all I wanted was to tear the fuckers in there apart to unleash all the pent-up frustrations that had built over this whole ordeal.

Everest tried the handle quietly. Of course, it was locked. That didn’t matter.

I stepped back, braced myself, and tackled the door.

It broke off the hinges, falling into the room with a loud, heavy thud.

Well, that would wake the building.

Without waiting, I shifted, leaping into the dark apartment just as someone jumped up from the couch inside with a shriek.

They had clearly been sleeping there.

I leaped toward them, ready to kill if I had to. My paws landed on the person’s shoulders, claws ripping through flesh as they fell back again, screaming.

That was when I realized. It was an omega.

Shit.

I shifted back, still pinning the omega flat against the cushions. She stared up at me with wide, scared eyes filled with tears.

“Who are you?” I snarled.

“S-Sandy,” she stuttered. “I didn’t do anything. I swear, I just take care of Asha—”

“Where is she?”

“Sleeping.”

She pointed with a shaking hand toward the hall.

I could see three doors.

I left the omega, following the others as they lead the way.

One of the doors was open exposing an empty washroom. Two bedrooms and an omega sleeping on the couch. That meant there was someone else here.

When the guys threw open the door, it wasn’t Asha’s room. Another alpha—Kai—was already waiting for us. He held a gun up and fired the moment the door swung open.

Seymour fell back with a shout, stumbling out of sight.

“Seymour!” Everest shouted, moving to catch him, but there was no time to see how bad it was because the gun was still aimed at the rest of us.

As one, we shifted.

Somehow, I was gratifyingly the first to reach Kai. I caught the gangster’s arm in my jaw and bit down as hard as I could until a satisfyingcrackechoed through the air along with his desperate shout.

The gun dropped from his hand, and he fell to his knees.

Shifting hurt like a bitch with broken bones, so I knew he wouldn’t dare. He was too much of a coward.

With every ounce of control I had, I released him and shifted into my human form.

Aspen and Aurora remained as their wolves, one on each side of Kai, ready to take him down with one wrong movement.

Kai didn’t try though, only clung to his broken arm, his eyes wild.

I bent and picked up the discarded gun. His face paled.
