ChapterEight

I was at a crossroads. On the one hand, I had my mate at my side. On the other, Asha was missing. If I went after her—Icouldn’tleave Ember alone, not until we were mated properly. But if I took the time for that, who knew what the bastards would do to Asha in the meantime? It felt like my heart was being torn in two.
I pulled the phone up, wondering who to call first for a moment, but Ember’s small, warm hand in my own made my decision for me. I had to get him home, in my own space where he would be safe.
I dialed Everest’s number, waiting impatiently while it rang. Cursing, I dialed again.
This time, the call was answered.
“Ever, it’s me.”
“Oh, thank god,” the other alpha exhaled. “I was worried as hell. No one would say where they took you. Are you okay?”
“They had me locked up in a room to recover and discuss business.”
And probably to mate my omega too. I would be safer then, more amenable to whatever they wanted.
“Shit,” Everest muttered.
“Can you come get us?”
“You’re at the club? I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.”
I hung up and turned to Ember.
He was clinging to my hand, shifting back and forth on his bare feet. The ground was cold, I realized. I’d been so caught up in the moment, I’d barely registered it.
“Come here,” I said, steering Ember back toward the building. I just wanted to stand inside the doors but as soon as Ember realized where he was being taken, he dug his heels in and those unusual eyes turned up to me in a suspicious gaze.
“What are you doing?” he demanded.
“It’s warmer inside the door,” I said, stung despite myself that Ember didn’t trust me.
“I’d rather wait right here.”
There was a challenge in Ember’s voice and his eyes like he was expecting me to drag him in there and prove—what exactly, I wasn’t sure.
“Okay,” I said after a moment.
Ember blinked, surprised, and my confusion grew. It was as if the omega expected me to disregard his wishes, to force him to do as he was told… I supposed that was what he was used to.
My grip tightened on Ember’s hand and without thinking, I pulled him closer, wrapping my arms around him.
Ember was still in the thin clothes he’d entered the fight in. Wearing only my fight shorts, I was in even less.
With so little between us, heat traveled fast, warming us straight through.
Ember felt so lovely in my arms, so perfect, so sexy. I took a slow breath, burying my face into his dark curls and everything feltright. A moan drifted from my lips, my cock hardening. Against my thigh, I felt Ember’s body reacting in a similar fashion.
We were right on the side of the street but suddenly, I couldn’t take it anymore. I wanted Ember, wanted to bury myself deep inside him, to sink my teeth into his flesh, to become one. But we couldn’t do this right here.
My gaze drifted to the alley nearby and the shameful realization that I had indeed fucked an omega there once, after a fight, hit me. I didn’t know their name, barely even remembered a face. Ember deserved better. He deserved to be on his back on my soft bedding, comfortable enough that he’d be able to take it all night because that was how I was going to do it. I would take my time, devour every inch of my mate, his cock and his hole, yes, but I would lick and touch every bit of his skin right to his toes and take it so slow that Ember begged for me.
A low groan left my lips, and Ember’s hands, which had settled on my hips, clenched, his body shuddering as though he could hear my thoughts.
The sudden loudhonkfrom a car next to us made Ember jump. I tightened my hold, somewhat disappointed, and looked over at Everest who was leaning out the driver’s side window with a grin.
