He climbed out of bed, and into a hot bath, reminiscing about the cool water of the falls in the mountains. And of course, then his thoughts spiraled to Soren’s knot inside him while his back was pressed against the rough stone wall.

He was so hard thinking about it but couldn’t bring himself to give his own release because the idea of it was so very depressing after days of repeatedly having the best sex of his life.

Sighing, he climbed from the bed and readied himself for the day.

He wasn’t exactly sure what should come next. If he returned to pack grounds now, Soren would be happy… then again, an immature, selfishpart of Nikolai still wanted Soren to come to him… just like he had demanded.

He swallowed and pushed the thoughts away, heading from his room to breakfast.

Nikolai wasn’t surprised to see that Andrey wasn’t there. His poor brother had lost a lot of blood. He assumed it would take time for his energy to return, although from what he had seen last night, at least he was now comfortable.

“How did you sleep?” Viktor asked.

Unsure how to respond, Nikolai accidentally nodded, shrugged, and then shook his head.

“Oh, that well, huh?” he chuckled.

Both of his parents were giving him an amused look, so he dropped all pretenses and sank into his chair.

“I must admit,” his father said, exchanging looks with the others. “We did not think you would be back so soon.”

Nikolai grimaced.

“Well, you all know me very well then, because if not for Andrey's injury, I would have stayed there.”

He reached for the breakfast rolls. Normally they were his favorite, but his mind was so far away that Nikolai didn't taste anything.

“I think it's time you explained everything.”

Nikolai took a deep breath, bracing himself and wondering how to tell the story... especially considering that most of it took place with him on his back.

He cleared his throat.

“When we arrived, I was informed that I had entered into a—” The word heat died on his tongue and his entire face was suddenly burning hot. “Basically, the only way to stop what was happening was if my alpha assisted me.”

His voice turned into a squeak and Viktor burst into laughter. His mother, being more polite, hid her embarrassed smile behind a napkin.

The king sighed very heavily.

“Go on,” he said, sounding tired.

“Well, remember when you said there was no way that wolf shifter magic was the same as oaf magic?”

His father's face was unreadable.

“So, it was as you suspected,” he said.

“In a way, yes,” Nikolai agreed. “The first half of our bond was completed during the ball when we met and while I was visiting Soren and his home… I decided to complete the second half.”

For a moment, the three watched him, looking dumbfounded.

“You mean to tell me, that my son, has finally found someone worth settling on?” his father asked.

Nikolai's face burned.

“Well, IthoughtI had,” he said over his mother's excited squealing. “But he wouldn't come with me, even when Andrey was injured.”

“Mother, calm down,” Viktor laughed, then turned to Nikolai. “Explain.”
