They made room for them when they arrived, and a great fuss was made to check them over.
Salve was put on their cuts and bruises and Fusa brought them pastries, and everyone was very gentle with them.
It wasn’t until Botan arrived, looking stern that Soren realized that Eri, her brother, and even Kamon, were missing.
“Where are they?” Soren asked.
“We decided to give Eri the chain. We didn’t want to disturb Alpha Jin. He can decide what to do with her in the morning.”
Soren grimaced.
The leash and chain were barbaric. He had never liked the idea of it. Yet Eri’s actions could not go unpunished. In his opinion, she deserved far worse.
He took a breath.
“And her brother and lover?”
“Homare is sitting with her right now. But when Kamon heard what she had done, he was not happy… He was the one who wanted her chained.”
Soren raised a brow.
“When your prospective bond mate tries to remove her competition from herfirstchoice, it must hurt the ego,” he shrugged.
Soren shook his head.
“What a mess,” he muttered.
He glanced over, catching Nikolai’s gaze.
He was sitting close enough to Soren that their legs were pressed together, and Andrey was close on his other side, looking tired.
Nikolai reached out and took Soren’s hand in his own, holding it tightly.
“Remember that conversation we had earlier?” he asked. “About making it official on both sides?”
Soren nodded, stroking the soft skin on Nikolai’s hand.
“If our bond was complete, would she have tried to get rid of me like that?”
Soren shrugged helplessly.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Clearly, she was not in her right mind…”
Nikolai looked down at the ground.
“Eri said that you two were going to bond until Iseducedyou.”
Anger filled Soren. He tried to push it down but couldn’t.
“She is a shallow, ruthless person,” Soren gritted out. “I admit I did not know the extent of it, but I did not like the way she pretended to be in front of my face. I could see through her sweet act, and I would not have bonded with her even if I hadn’t met my fated mate.”
He looked into Nikolai’s eyes.
“Our meeting was a blessing, and I was happy that you wanted me as much as I wanted you. There was no need for seduction at all. I’m sure you remember that.”
Nikolai’s gaze warmed and Soren leaned forward, catching his lips in a kiss.
“You’re the only person I have ever wanted to bond with.”
