Soren grinned.
“Everyone grows up eventually,” he said, and this time Nikolai smiled.
“Yes, and I used to think that was a bad thing. It's not. It's finding a place and a rhythm and—and even your heart.”
Soren was watching him, a gentle expression on his face while he listened, his thumb tracing circles over Nikolai's belly button.
“I care about more now,” he went on. “That's a beautiful thing, and it's all thanks to you.”
Soren shook his head softly.
“You were always beautiful Nikolai, inside and out... Maybe you just needed a reason to show that to the rest of the world.”
He wiggled close enough to press a kiss to Nikolai's lips, pressing him gently into the pillow.
“Thank you for letting me see you,” he whispered.
Nikolai's entire being filled with warmth at that. He didn't know why he was so lucky, but he was grateful for it. For everything.
He had a new family in the pack and he was so proud to be a part of them. He had his own supportive and loving family.
Whatever was to come, he would always have Soren, his love, his mate at his side to face it.He couldn't wait for a life filled with more ofwhat they already had.
EPILOGUE
SOREN
“Breathe!” Soren said uselessly.
Truthfully, he didn't knowwhatthe procedure was for childbirth. He had never actually been inside the room while a baby was being born. He'd heard the screams echoing through the caves once when he'd been small and that had terrified him enough to steer very clear every time someone went into labor from then on.
Now, as the pack alpha and as afriendit was his duty to sit at Anzu's side and hold her hand. Her grip was shockingly strong for an omega but Soren just gritted his teeth while she practically crushed his bones and didn't mention it.
In front of her, some of the other omegas helped, coaching her through the birthing process. On her other side was her husband. Soren saw Enkai wince, noticed the way she was white-knuckling his hand too, and almost laughed.
But then Anzu, normally so sweet and patient, glared over Soren's head in the direction that Nikolai was standing.
“Nikolai, if ever Soren tries to convince you that yetanotherlitter is a great idea,” she gritted, “Don't listen to him!”
Behind him, Nikolai chuckled awkwardly.
“Okay, Anzu,” he said soothingly. “I won't have any babies. I promise.”
They hadn't actually discussed it aside from a very hilarious conversation in which Nikolai nearly had a breakdown trying to understand how male omegas could get pregnant too.
Overall, things were amazing between them and it didn't feel to Soren like they needed anything in life at all aside from each other, but still, he couldn't help glancing over his shoulder to see if Nikolai meant it.
He just shrugged at Soren awkwardly, an amused smile on his face.
Soren found himself smiling back.
It took what felt like the entire day before Anzu was suddenly pushing a child out of her womb. And then another. Only two this time, luckily, which put them at seven.
It would be a lot to deal with, but the entire pack helped with the children and these two loved being parents. It wouldn't suit everyone, but it did suit them.
Case in point, the moment the two children were placed into Anzu's outstretched arms, both she and Enkai began to cry at once.
“I take whatever terrible things I was saying about having babies back,” Anzu sniffled.
