Perfect,Soren thought.
He shifted, just as swiftly, but in the process, Kamon wiggled free.
Soren snapped at him, lunging after him, but Kamon slid this way and that, just out of reach.
Heaving a breath, Soren watched Kamon, all of his attention focused on the other wolf.
He was trembling from the adrenaline. Blood soaked his fur at the shoulder and front paws. There was a wild look in his eyes.
It was always best to tread carefully around those who were ready to risk it all. When an animal lashed out, that was when they were the most dangerous. It was also when they were the most likely to make mistakes…
Kamon moved suddenly, leaping forward with all his might. Soren just managed to roll to the side but as soon as he was straight again, Kamon barrelled into him with all the strength of his large form, sending Soren tumbling.
He hit the ground hard, rolled once, onto his back, and the weight of the other wolf landed atop him, like a sack of bricks.
Suddenly, he shifted, his heavy weight fully human now, strong hands holding Soren’s paws flat, long legs and feet hooked around his back paws in a way that he couldn’t fight.
He snapped up, furiously, panicking when he couldn’t reach and without thinking, began to thrash, fighting to get Kamon off of him.
Kamon smiled down at him, cruel, calculated, satisfied. Like he’d already won.
He didn’t think Soren could do better than this.
He thought that the match was as good as over.
But he didn’t know what he didn’t know. Like that Soren could smell his omega’s worried scent enveloping him, making him want to do anything to protect. He didn’t know how much Soren loved his pack. He didn’t know just how much this meant to him.
With a snarl, Soren snapped, shifting with a snarl into his human form. He yanked his arms back, making Kamon fall forward, and then lurched forward, extending long fangs, this time not missing Kamon's throat.
As soon as Soren's teeth sank into Kamon's flesh, he knew he had him.
Kamon struggled, felt the way it tore him open even more, and then stilled. Soren didn't release him though. Instead, he turned his head, steering Kamon who was powerless to stop him until he was flat on his back with Soren over him.
Kamon whined beneath him, a totally submissive sound that thrilled Soren, but he had to concede defeat or end up dead. Soren would not stop until the decision was truly final.
Suddenly, Kamon reached up, tapping Soren frantically.
Immediately, Soren released him.
He jumped back, just in case, not truly trusting the other wolf even in defeat, but he needn't have worried. Kamon was bleeding profusely, holding his throat.
He looked weak and pale and Soren realized that hot blood still dripped off his own face.
He reached up to wipe it away and looked around.
The other wolves watched and he could see the satisfaction in their gazes when he met their eyes.
Finally, some of the omegas took pity on Kamon and went to his side to help him.
Nikolai was standing by the front, his eyes wide, chest rising and falling quickly. The moment Soren offered his hand, Nikolai rushed forward, ignoring it to tumble into Soren's arms and squeeze him as hard as he could.
“Are you okay?” he asked, shuddering.
Soren wasn't sure.
His body was still radiating shock. He'd done it. He'dwon.
Pride filled him and he turned his face toward the sky, taking a deep, shuddering breath. At that moment, he was sure he could feel Alpha Jin's presence. He'd made his grandfather proud.
