Warmth crept into Nova’s face. “I was not!” she argued.

“Were too,” Aria shot back. She pointed to her nose. “Lycans, remember? We can smell when your body chemistry changes.” Nova’s face must have looked as horrified as she felt because Aria burst out laughing.

“Wait a minute,” Nova started. “You’re telling me Darren can smell…”

“When you wanna bone?” Aria cut in. “Yes, he can!”

“Aria,” Laurie warned.

“What?” Aria gave an innocent look. “Someone should tell her these things!” Nova plopped down on the couch, feeling completely embarrassed. Aria hopped over the back of the couch to join her. “Hey, I get it! Darren is hot! Too bad no one in this building ever wants tobow chika wowwith me.” She sighed. “Gideon has everybody convinced that if they touch me, his wolf will rip their face off in a manner so horrific that even a lycan won’t be able to regenerate and heal.” She stuck her bottom lip out in a pout. Nova didn’t envy her. She was quite certain Gideon would keep his word. “So. Spill!” Aria prodded.

Laurie joined them on the couch. “Aria, this is Nova’s private business.”

“Considering I’m sitting on a couch that smells like it’s where their ‘private business’ was gonna take place, I want to know!”

Nova covered her face in her hands. This was a nightmare. “It was nothing,” she said defensively.

Aria stared into her with those cobalt-blue eyes. “Mmmhmm…sure. Well next time ‘nothing’ happens, I want all the juicy details.”

Nova sighed. “Fine.”

The gorgeous brunette was extremely persistent. Suddenly Aria’s eyes lit up. “We should get drinks tonight! Laurie, you in?”

Laurie smiled. “I’ll see if Lance—”

“Lance shmance! This is a girls’ night!”

Laurie shook her head. “They’ll never let her go anywhere without Darren as an escort.”

Aria thought for a minute. “What if we get a replacement who is just as badass as Darren, but also fills our girls’ night quota?”

Nova felt confused. “Who are you talking about?”

Aria giggled. “Leah, duh!”

“Gideon’s advisor?” Nova asked.

“Oh please!” said Aria. “She is his advisor, but she’s also his bodyguard when he needs one.” The surprise on Nova’s face couldn’t be hidden.

“Sheis the Alpha’s bodyguard?”

“Mhm, yep. She is a grade-A badass, and the first woman in our pack to ever be chosen for her position.” Leaning in, Aria added, “If I were you, I would not fuck with her. Leah’s wolf is basically legendary, and also terrifying to look at.”

Nova was impressed. It seemed she had underestimated the fierce advisor.

“So”—Aria clapped her hands together—“drinks at Palermo’s at eight?”

Nova shook her head. “I don’t have anything to wear.”

“Don’t worry about that.” Aria smiled. “I’ve got you covered.”

ChapterEight

Aria arrived back at Nova’s room an hour before their girls’ night began and thoroughly attacked her with makeup brushes and tight-fitting outfits. After telling Aria, “I am not going out in public in that,” multiple times, and trying on many scandalous outfits, they finally settled on a simple black slip dress and strappy heels. Aria had worked Nova’s silver hair into a French twist with accented pieces hanging down around her face. The makeup was a bit more than Nova usually applied herself, but Nova had to admit, she felt stunning. Aria had chosen a far more exciting outfit which included a tiny strapless blue dress with cutouts on the side and matching blue stilettos. The woman must literally look good in anything! The blues made her stunning eyes pop even more.

A knock on the door signaled it was eight. “That must be Laurie and Leah!” Aria squealed. She opened the door to find not just Laurie and Leah, but Lance and Darren as well. On top of the unexpected boys, there were also two children. Aria glared at the men. “No. No boys allowed.”

Lance glared back at her. “With everything that’s going on, I’m afraid you can’t just go galivanting off on your own.”
