A lie that tastes bitter on my tongue.

My dick hasn’t stopped thinking about her since that fucking lake. She infected me with her sickness, and now I’m too far gone to ever recover…

I’m just a mindless host waiting to be devoured.

My best friend frowns. “You mean your heart?” he deadpans.

“No, my dick because the only thing I loved about Cordelia was that pretty pussy and that fucking parasitic mouth. That’s it.”

He shrugs, pulling out his vape and taking a long inhale of the fruity smoke. “Whatever you say, the tickets aren’t cheap so make sure she’s on that ferry Thursday, next week.”

I nod.

“She will be, even if I have to force her on myself.”

Chase exhales the smoke. “Do you think she regrets playing us?”

I could laugh. Of course she doesn’t because being twisted is in her soul.

Intelligent. Beautiful. Manipulating. Snake.

She cracked us open. Made us animals. Then left us to starve.

“No, Chase, I don’t. If anything, I think she loved seeing us panic. Seeing us submit to her until she was bored. Until she decided she was done with us. Don’t forget what she put us through the last year of high school after that camping trip.”

Chase backs up a little, throwing up his hands in the air, his eyes softening as if he wasn’t the most affected by the situation. After all, she pretended to be his while sneaking into my room at night.

Chase and I almost fell out over it. Years of friendship down the drain all because we wanted the same girl.

I mean, it’s not like I can publicly admit I used to make out with my step sister while our parents slept down the hall, but I wanted her for everything she was–is.

Who knows now?

My feelings for Cordelia are complicated.

I look at Chase as he grins before the tension on his face is back for a moment, I can see something behind themask.

A crack.

Maybe a lie.

A secret.

Whatever it is, he’s not ready to share it… like I wasn’t ready to share her all those years ago, then it changed, and she created new rules.

“Tell me, what do you want?” I beg as Cordelia bends down and begins to dig through the dirt, looking for mushrooms to pull. It wasn’t only her beauty that made me this desperate…

This needy.

It was her brain…

Chase comes up beside me, and kneels beside her, catching her hand.

“What do you want from us, Cordy?” His voice is soft and loving as he speaks to her. She leans into him, drawn by his warmth and smiles.

“I want both. I don’t want to choose. So, if I can’t have both…”

She inhales deeply, those icy blue eyes locked on me as the words leave her lips. “If we can’t work, then it’s done. I’m not choosing.”
