“One of the residents at the children’s hospital had a bad day and asked me to grab some food with him after his shift tomorrow. It’s a friend thing.” I state, making sure my annoyance is evident in my tone. I swear to Christ, I am the same age as Sunday, yet I’m treated like a child.

“Does Virginia know?” Ash asks, leaning against the doorframe.

“It just happened before I came here, and just because Derek and I are roommates does not mean we are besties who tell each other everything.” Or anything. Since that night, Derek has done a hell of a job of avoiding me, and when he can’t, I am back to no eye contact and grunts. He said we wouldn’t be together, but I didn’t realize we would be nothing.

“You should tell him,” Ash sighs as he pushes himself off the frame. “You know he will lose it.” I scoff at my brother.

“And why would that be?”

“Because he’s sporting a hard-on for you,” Stevie states, coming out of the back room.

“Oh yeah? Okay, bet?” I stand up and make my way out to the tattoo area, where Atlas is… hula-hooping while Derek and Fox watch.

“Nobody speaks.” Fox holds his hand up. “I got eighty bucks ridin’ on this.”

Atlas chuckles. “Never underestimate the power of my hips!” He pants out. Rolling my eyes, I go to stand in front of Derek. He looks from Atlas to me and raises a brow.

“Can I help you?” Okay, ouch. But now isn’t the time.

“I’m going out with a resident after his shift tomorrow. I just wanted you to know because I may be out late and didn’t want to startle you when I came in.” I hear the hula hoop fall to the ground, but my eyes don’t leave Derek’s. I watch as they darken, and his jaw sets. Then he blinks and looks away.

“Cough it up, gentlemen.” He smirks while holding out his hand, waiting for his money. “Sounds good, Indy. Have fun.”

There, see, I was right. I feel like crying, but I’m right. I smile at my brother and friends. “Told you,” I whisper as I briskly walk by heading to the bathroom.

I’m sittingon the futon watching tv when Derek comes walking through. He gives me a nod before shutting the door and taking his shoes off. Best orgasm of my life, and he is making me regret it due to his cold attitude. My phone chimes, and I reach over and pick it up.

Liam: You may not want to go out with me after all

I frown at my screen.

“What?” I hear Derek ask but choose to ignore him.

Me: Oh? Why not?

Liam: I was just covered in diarrhea

Liam: It’s so bad…

Liam: I’ll never feel clean again, and I have a real fear that no amount of scrubbing is going to rid me of this stench. What if you catch a whiff while eating a cheese stick? It could ruin them for you for life.

I’m dying on the futon from cackling so hard.

Me: Wow… that would be terrible, but I’ll risk it. See you tomorrow *smiley emoji*

I look up from my phone to see Derek’s very dark glare focusing on me. “What?” I laugh uncomfortably.

“What’s so funny?” He asks, and I shrug.

“Nothing that you would find funny. Just something that happened to Liam.”

“Who is Liam?” I hear the faintest growl in his tone.

“The resident from Children’s that I’m hanging out with tomorrow.” His face goes lax, and I’m officially confused.

“I thought that was a joke,” he states in shock. “I thought you were trying to get a rise out of me.”
