I hear a loud ‘HA’ from the other side of the wall and can’t help but chuckle. Making Sunday laugh gives me this odd warmth, like pride or something. Sunday isn’t one to laugh out of politeness or because it’s her neutral mode. Sunday is a sarcastic smart ass with a dry sense of humor. She’s hard to crack, but when you do, there is no better feeling.
Me: Isn’t it past your bedtime?
Sunshine: Ha ha
Sunshine: I can’t sleep so I’m watching this documentary on how aliens have actually been here all along and live under the ocean.
Me: Shut up, you are not
The next message I receive is a photo taken from her bed. Her tanned legs are bare, but she has on the ugliest orange fluffy socks and at the end of her bed is her tv on her dresser with the documentary paused showing the title.
Me: I’m coming over
Sunshine: Uh… why?
Me: You’re watching an alien documentary. I’m going to need to watch and discuss this with you at great length.
Sunshine: I am in my underwear
Me: Are you trying to deter or entice me here, Sunshine?
I hear another ‘HA’ and I turn on my tv and find the documentary. I look at the time she paused it and fast forward to that spot.
Me: Okay fine, I’ll stay in my bed, but I am at your spot. We are debating this because there is NO WAY aliens are living in our ocean.
Sunshine: Oh…Charming, you are on. When you hear the knock, hit play.
After a second, she knocks, and I start the show. I sit there in comfortable silence for a minute before my phone starts vibrating. I look at the caller id and furrow my brows as I answer it.
“Shut up,” Sunday says before I can even say hello. “How are we going to debate this if you and I aren’t able to speak?”
I reach over and put my earbuds in before standing up and taking off my jeans so I can get more comfortable. “You feeling a little tug on that red string there, Sunshine?” I ask softly, and she scoffs.
“Shut up, you’re going to miss important information.” I crawl into bed and see that someone on the hook up app is trying to contact me to meet up. I open my phone up and look at the alert.
“See!” Sunday’s excited voice fills my ears. “Oh my God, Ash! They could’ve been here all along!” I chuckle lightly as I disable the alerts on the hook up apps before looking back at the screen.
“Okay, Sunshine,” I smirk. “Let’s get more than eight minutes into the documentary before we make any decisions.”
Chapter7
Sunday
“Mom.” I jolt awake and look around the room as I see Alice sitting on my bed with Wade behind her. I groan as I flop back on the bed.
“Son, I told you to keep that chicken out of here.” As if knowing I’m talking about her, Alice hisses at me before trotting off.
“Mom, can you see if Fox or Atlas will take me to the art store today?” I stare at my son blankly for a moment.
“Who?” I ask, trying to fully wake up my brain. What time is it? I find my phone on my pillow and groan, I forgot to charge it last night.
“Moomm…” Wade groans and I let out a frustrated sigh.
“Wade, I don’t know, okay? I have classes today and I think the guys work. Just give me ten minutes to wake up and I’ll figure it out, okay? I promise you’ll get to the art store today.” He looks slightly disappointed, but nods and walks out of the room. I run my hands through my hair as I try to remember last night. I was watching a documentary— Oh shit… while on the phone with Ash.
I groan as my phone turns on. I instantly go to the call log and my eyes go wide. Our call lasted six hours and three minutes. I burned my battery and the charging case battery. I stare at the clock; it’s ten and I have my first dance class at noon.
“Damn it!” I curse as I hop out of bed to run towards the shower, tripping in my sheets as I do so. This day is going swell already.
